The Brooklyn Nets and New York Knicks are both jockeying for position in the Eastern Conference table. The Nets are fifth in the East with a 33-23 overall record and a 16-12 road record. The Knicks are seventh in the East with a 31-27 overall record and a modest 15-15 home record.
Despite making some big moves at the deadline, the Brooklyn Nets are trying to maintain their quality on both ends of the court. Over their last two games with Durant and Irving out of Brooklyn, the Nets have gone 1-1 while allowing their opponents to shoot 48.9% from the field and 42.6% from three. The Knicks will counter them with an intense defence that holds opponents to 45.6% from the field (3rd in the NBA) and 34.8% from three (6th in the NBA). New York have gone 3-2 over their last five games, shooting 47.0% from the field and 36.4% from three.
We're taking the Knicks in this game despite their rather average home record. The Nets are still a versatile team on both ends, but their lack of primary focus has their three-point shooting looking inconsistent. Add in one of the league's best three-point defending teams in the Knicks and the choice is easy to make.

Both the Orlando Magic and Chicago Bulls are on a down run of form and are looking to get back on the winning track. Orlando are currently 13th in the Eastern Conference with a 23-34 overall record and a 9-19 road record. Chicago have fallen to 11th in the East with a 26-30 overall record and a 16-11 home record.
The Magic are a gritty team on both ends of the court, holding their opponents to 32.3 rebounds per game (6th in the NBA) while getting to the free throw line 25.6 times per game (5th in the NBA). Orlando are coming off of a disappointing loss in their last matchup, where they scored just 103 points while committing 18 turnovers. The Bulls will test their opponents with their efficient offence, which converts on 49.0% from the field (5th in the NBA) while holding opponents to just 47.0% from the field (10th in the NBA). Chicago are coming off of a loss in their last game, as they were held to just 89 points while committing 22 turnovers.
The Magic are playing good basketball over their recent stretch and their size should be an issue for the Chicago Bulls' interior-oriented offence. It may not be a high-scoring affair, but Orlando have performed well against stiff competition in their last three games. Chicago will keep it close, but we think it should eventually go in favor of the Magic.

There are so few games separating the top five of the West from the rest of the playoff contenders, both the Minnesota Timberwolves and Dallas Mavericks are eyeing the chance to vault up the standings. The Timberwolves are currently eighth in the Western Conference with a 30-29 overall record and a disappointing 10-17 road record. The Mavericks are fourth with a 31-27 overall record and a 19-9 home record.
Minnesota are a free-flowing offensive team that averages 115.7 points (10th in the NBA) on 49.2% efficiency (4th in the NBA). They're coming off of a loss in their last game, as they allowed 128 points on 58.3% from the field and 40.0% from three. Dallas are a team that are a story of three-point shooting, as they convert on 14.8 threes per game (3rd in the NBA) while allowing just 11.0 threes per game (1st in the NBA). The Mavericks are coming off of a disappointing loss in their last game, losing 128-133 despite shooting 51.6% from the field and 39.2% from three on 20 makes.
We're expecting the Mavericks to bounce back in this matchup with the Timberwolves as Minnesota's traditional lineup is primed to be exploited by Dallas' talented guards. The Timberwolves will get up and down the floor, but the tempo should be more than comfortable for Dallas. Expect the difference in overall quality to result in a Dallas Mavericks victory.
