Brooklyn Nets vs Memphis Grizzlies Predictions and Pick

Brooklyn are looking to push their win streak to 3 in a row, but the Grizzlies will give them a difficult time. The Grizzlies’ defence is definitely a concern, but with their two best scorers in tow and a glut of willing three-point shooters, the Nets should level the series.

How can the Nets beat the Grizzlies?

The Brooklyn Nets need every win they can get in order to make a play for a guaranteed spot in the post-season. When they face the Grizzlies, Brooklyn will need to try and control one of the fastest teams in the NBA.

Not only do the Memphis Grizzlies own the 5th highest pace in the NBA, they rank first in the league in fast-break points per game at 17.7. With Morant out in recent matches, Memphis has actually pushed the pace further by averaging 25.3 fast break points of their last 3 games.

Opting to play at a more deliberate pace, the Nets are usually beaten in the shot attempts department regardless of result. If the Nets can’t slow down the Grizzlies, and force them to play at their tempo, it’ll be another in the loss column.

Nets Key Player: (G) Kyrie Irving

Despite the infrequency of Irving’s appearances, you can’t say that he isn’t productive when he shows up. Against a Grizzlies team that outpaced them in their last meeting, Irving needs to help the Brooklyn Nets control the game.

Only appearing in 19 games through this season, Irving has averaged 27.7 points, 5.3 assists, and 4.7 rebounds in 36.1 minutes per game. Unfortunately for the Nets, Irving’s impact hasn’t always carried them to a winning record, going just 8-11 in games he’s played in.

Kyrie Irving will be matched up with budding superstar Ja Morant in this game. Never the most talented defender, Irving will need to keep Morant honest with his own offensive brilliance.

How can the Grizzlies beat the Nets?

The Memphis Grizzlies have beaten the Brooklyn Nets once before this season, but they’ll face a different challenge this time out. With the Nets’ two biggest scoring threats available, Memphis will need to show how well they can guard in rotation.

The Brooklyn Nets are the best mid-range shooting team in the NBA, converting on 48.0% of their attempts. The more success they have in the mid-range, the more their game opens up, as evidenced by a more than acceptable 35.8% three-point shooting efficiency.

Due to Memphis’ excellent shot-blocking and rebounding, first in the NBA in both categories, the Grizzlies can afford to be extra aggressive. However, due to the explosive scoring potential of Irving and Durant, Memphis must be selective in who they are guarding.

Grizzlies Key Player: (G) Ja Morant

Ja Morant is having a fantastic season, seemingly making him a lock for a position on the All-NBA team. Based on his last performance against the Brooklyn Nets, Morant’s explosiveness will be key to defeating the slow pace of the Nets.

In his last meeting with the Nets, Morant posted 36 points, 8 assists, and 6 rebounds on 14 of 22 shooting from the field. Morant was brilliant, but it was his massive 18-point third quarter performance that sealed the match for Memphis.

The Grizzlies will be facing a different looking Nets team this time out, with more scoring potential than last time they faced off. Morant will need to control the pace of the game, not just with his scoring but also with his playmaking.
