How Can the Grizzlies Beat the Warriors?

The Memphis Grizzlies need to carry their momentum from Game 2 into Game 3. They got off to a fast start in Game 2, something that helped them stave off the Warriors as the game wore on. How Memphis open the game will determine their success.

In Game 2 against the Warriors, the Memphis came out of the gates flying. They were able to outscore the Warriors 33 to 25, while also shooting 47.8% from the field. Memphis were also able to force 6 turnovers out of the Warriors in the first quarter.

It’ll be difficult for Memphis to replicate their effort on Golden State’s home court, but it certainly isn’t impossible. Morant and Jackson Jr. led the way in the scoring department, but their role players will need to relieve some of the pressure they’ll face.

Grizzlies Key Player: (G) Ja Morant

The NBA and its fans saw one of the NBA’s most exciting performances in Game 2 of the Grizzlies-Warriors series in Ja Morant. The Grizzlies point guard put in a star-making performance, something that signalled a bright future for Memphis and the league.

In Memphis’ Game 2 victory over Golden State, Morant posted 47 points, 8 rebounds, 8 assists, and 3 steals in 40 minutes of play. He was 15 of 31 from the field and 5 of 12 from the three-point range. He also went 12 of 13 from the three-point line and committed just 2 turnovers.

Morant singlehandedly carried the Grizzlies to a win in Game 2. With the Warrior’s defence sure to focus on stopping Morant from getting to the rim, his playmaking must be one of his top priorities.

How Can the Warriors Beat the Grizzlies?

The Golden State Warriors are known for their free-flowing offence, as well as their intimidating defence. If they want to take the lead in the series, Golden State need to take care of the ball in order to improve their offence.

In Game 2 against the Memphis Grizzlies, the Warriors committed 18 turnovers. Their two most utilized playmakers led the way in the turnover department, with Stephen Curry and Draymond Green combining for 9 of the team’s 18 turnovers on the night.

The Grizzlies have decided to pressure the ball and push the pace against the Warriors, something Golden State hasn’t been able to punish with their shooting. If they can clean up their passing and hit their open shots, the Warriors should take the lead in the series.

Warriors Key Player: (G) Klay Thompson

The Golden State Warriors are a good overall team, but when Curry receives a lot of focus their role players must produce. Thompson struggled from the field in Game 2, which was a big contributor to their loss.

Thompson played 41 minutes in Game 2 against the Grizzlies, posting just 12 points, 3 assists, and 3 steals. He was a paltry 5 of 19 from the field and 2 of 12 from the three-point range. As the Warriors second option on offence, his struggles made it difficult for them to compete.

When Klay Thompson isn’t hitting his shots, it becomes a lot easier for the Grizzlies to get the rebound and push the ball with pace. If Thompson can punish the Grizzlies defenders with efficient shooting, the Warriors can go up 2-1 on the series.
