Not only were the Grizzlies absolutely brilliant in their Game 5 meeting with the Golden State Warriors, the plucky young Western Conference team embarrassed a team for three halls of Famers and former champions.
By setting the pace from tip-off, the Grizzlies ran away with the game and never looked back. They forced 22 turnovers out of the Warriors, while also capitalizing on their own offence by assisting on 37 of their 47 field goals.
When they attack the paint, the Grizzlies can’t be stopped. If they can continue punishing the Warriors from range, as they were 18 of 49 in Game 5, Memphis can pull off another upset.

The Memphis Grizzlies were brilliant against the Warriors in Game 5 and much of their success came from Jackson Jr.’s two-way play. He was an incredible plus-42 on the night, showing off his ability to anchor the Grizzlies on both ends.
Jackson Jr. is coming off of a performance where he posted 21 points, 8 rebounds, 3 assists, 2 blocks, and 2 steals. He was a solid 6 of 10 from the field and 4 of 6 from three-point range. His shooting ability totally opened up the Warriors defence, allowing them to outpace the Warriors.
It’s unlikely that the Grizzlies will be able to maintain their shooting against the Warriors, but Jackson Jr. has a lot to give on defence. His presence in the paint allowed the Grizzlies to help aggressively on shooters, giving them something new to work with for Game 6.
The Golden State Warriors tout a lot of accomplishments through their recent history, but none of that helped them against the Grizzlies in Game 5. If the Warriors hope to close out the Grizzlies, they’ll need to clean up their offence.
The Memphis Grizzlies were able to hold the Warriors to 45% shooting from the field and 35.9% shooting from three. While their offensive efficiency wasn’t terrible, they were outpaced by 19 more field goal attempts.
Many of the Warriors’ issues stemmed from their poor ball security, where they ranked 29th in the NBA through the regular season. If they can limit their mistakes and keep pace with the Grizzlies, they have all the talent needed to close out the series.

The Golden State Warriors were blown out in Game 5 against the Grizzlies, and the only player to really make an efficient impact on the offensive end was Klay Thompson. He struggled on the defensive side of the ball, but his shooting was solid.
Thompson posted 19 points, 3 rebounds, and 1 assist on 7 of 12 shooting from the field and 3 of 6 shooting from three-point range. No Warrior had a good night against the Grizzlies, but he showed the best efficiency of their starting group.
As the Warriors try to find their revenge against the Grizzlies, Thompson needs to punish the Memphis defence with his shooting. If he can’t keep the Grizzlies honest, it’s unlikely the rest of the Warriors stars will be able to get back on track.
