NYK: Time to Get Back to Defending
When the New York Knicks opened the season gunning from three and paying little mind to their defense, it was cute while it lasted. However, the Knicks are coming off of a loss to the Cavaliers where they could not contain the perimeter attack.
In their last game, the Knicks allowed the Cavaliers to shoot 54.4% from the field and 54.3% from three, to go along with 19 made three-point field goals.
Just last year the Knicks were third overall in defensive rating, now finding themselves in the bottom third of the league in defensive rating. They need to refocus on defense, even if it hinders their offense. Otherwise, New York’s downhill trend may continue.
Knicks Key Player: (G) Derrick Rose
DERRICK ROSE FINISH. 🌹
— Hoop Central (@TheHoopCentral) November 6, 2021
With Kemba Walker out due to injury, the starting point guard position went to Derrick Rose. While the Knicks struggled, the former MVP showed that he still has a lot to give.
In a loss to the Cavaliers, Rose posted 17 points, 5 assists, and one steal on 8 of 14 shooting from the field. While his scoring was efficient, he struggled to contain opposing point guards.
Rose is still an excellent leader for the Knicks. But he can’t be relied upon to contain the point of attack for the majority of the game. New York must help and recover effectively to get back on a roll, or they’ll soon find all their early work undone.
PHI: Inside-Out
Even without Ben Simmons, Philadelphia look focused and dangerous on every part of the court. They’ve been toying with defenses over their last six games, mostly due to their fantastic versatility.
The Sixers have been shooting 51.2% from the field over their six game winning streak, while also converting on 12.3 three-point field goals. Despite missing their most prolific rim-attacking option, the Sixers have settled into a very effective inside-out gameplan – surrounding Embiid with some of the league’s most dangerous shooters.
New York play two traditional big men, so Philly will have the advantage if they can effectively swing the ball. Their inside-out attack doesn’t work without efficient passing, so it will be up to their role players to swing the ball and create their own off-ball opportunities.
Sixers Key Player: (C) Joel Embiid

He’s back and he looks healthy. Joel Embiid looked brilliant against the Chicago Bulls in his last matchup, suggesting their run could last for even longer.
The Cameroonian All-Star posted 30 points, 15 rebounds, 3 assists, and 2 blocks on 11 of 19 shooting from the field. To make things even better, Embiid hit 4 three-pointers on the evening.
Embiid was quiet in his last game against the Knicks, so he’ll be the focus for Doc Rivers to open the game. If Embiid can start scoring early, the Knicks could be in big trouble.
