The New York Knicks have a very interesting matchup on their hands when they face the Cavaliers. In order to beat the Cavaliers, they must overcome the strength of their frontcourt.
In losses, the Cavaliers have a rebounding differential of minus-2.7, while giving up 105 offensive rebounds per game – the latter not being far off of from their rate in victories.
After losing Mitchell Robinson to a sprained ankle in their last game, the Knicks grow even more undermanned. Should they take down the Cavaliers, expect a big rebounding night from the Knicks’ backcourt to compensate for their frontcourt.
RJ BARRETT TAKE OVER ??? pic.twitter.com/M55SVavQwZ
— KNICKS ON MSG (@KnicksMSGN) January 23, 2022
The New York Knicks got back on the winning track, largely due to the brilliant efforts of RJ Barrett. It seems with every passing game, Barrett is proving himself to be the true star of the New York Knicks.
In his last game, a win over the LA Clippers, RJ Barrett led the Knicks with 28 points, 14 rebounds, and 6 assists. His willingness to create as well as get to the line helped New York seal the win.
The Cleveland Cavaliers are one of the best team’s in the NBA on the defensive side of the ball. Finding a way to navigate and overcome the Cavaliers’ shot blockers will be a priority for Barrett.
The Knicks are a very inconsistent team when it comes to their two-way play. For the Cleveland Cavaliers to take them down, they must break down the Knicks’ defence early.
The point differential between the Knicks and their opponents in losses is a whopping minus-11.6 points. Much of that has to do with New York struggling to keep up with solid ball and player movement.
So long as the Cavaliers don’t fall into one-on-one play, they should be fine. However, the pressure will be on Darius Garland, a more scoring-oriented point guard.
No look dime from Darius Garland. ?
— Hoop Central (@TheHoopCentral) January 23, 2022
Cleveland Cavaliers guard Darius Garland is making a serious bid to be selected as an All-Star in 2022. Despite two key players going down due to injury for the season, Garland continues to lead the Cavaliers to victory.
In his last game, a win over the Oklahoma City Thunder, Garland was a team-leading plus-23. He posted 23 points, 11 assists, and 1 steal in 38 minutes of play. While his scoring was certainly valuable, it was his playmaking that helped to secure the victory.
If there’s one place where Garland can improve, it is in the turnover column. He had 8 turnovers to his 11 assists last game. He must be more secure with the ball in order to take a win from the Knicks.
