LA Clippers vs Utah Jazz Predictions and Picks

Our Pick
The LA Clippers had a handle on the Jazz for the majority of Game 1, but stumbled out of the gate in the second half and gave up their lead. With a more concentrated effort and more rest before Game 2, LA should even up the series.

LAC: Control the Pace

The LA Clippers are more than capable of taking down the Jazz, but they faltered late and gave away Game 1.

Tyronn Lue’s team only attempted 85 field goals in Game 1, converting on 36. They were efficient with their ball movement though, assisting on 22 of those 36 field goals.

Save for a dreadful third quarter, the Clippers controlled the majority of the game. Controlling the pace of the game and making sure that they can create solid opportunities is crucial. Continuing to get the free throw line will do wonders for their eventual droughts.

Clippers Key Player: (F) Marcus Morris

LA Clippers starting power forward Marcus Morris has struggled to reward the efforts of Kawhi Leonard and Paul George when given the opportunity. To level the series, head coach Tyronn Lue needs him to be effective.

Morris posted nine points, three rebounds, a block, and a steal in 33 minutes of play in Game 1. His one of nine-night from three made it difficult for the Clippers – especially in the fourth.

The nine-year veteran needs to find his feet early for the LA Clippers. He’s too versatile on defense to leave on the bench, but his struggles shooting the ball are hurting his team.

UTA: A Consistent Four Quarters

The Utah Jazz won’t have an easy out in Game 2. Despite coming out the winners in Game 1, Utah needs to have a better performance to go up 2-0.

Utah trailed through the first half and were fortunate to find their rhythm for a fantastic third quarter. Despite that, they almost gave the game away in the fourth if not for a gargantuan effort from Donovan Mitchell.

To go up 2-0 in the series, the Utah Jazz needs to take advantage of home court and maintain their effort through four quarters.

Jazz Key Player: (G) Donovan Mitchell

With the performance that Donovan Mitchell showed off in Game 1, the Jazz guard was always going to be the key man going into Game 2.

In Game 1 against the LA Clippers, Donovan Mitchell carried his team to victory. He scored 45 points on 53.3% shooting from the field and six of 15 shooting from three. More importantly, he scored 16 of his 45 in the fourth quarter to stave off the Clippers.

Mitchell can carry the Jazz, but with their amount of talent, he shouldn’t have to. With the offensive threat that he possesses, he should be able to create better opportunities for his teammates.
