How can the Lakers beat the Knicks?

The Los Angeles Lakers are coming off of a late-game victory over the Detroit Pistons. While they came away with the win, it was apparent that the Lakers need to put on the pressure from the jump.

Despite winning the first quarter 30 to 26, the Lakers eventually lost the second and third quarter by a combined total of 19. It took a 20-point scoring differential in the fourth for the Lakers to come away with the win.

The Knicks are too strong of a scoring team for the Lakers to get complacent in the second and third quarters. If they can establish aggressiveness and consistency from their squad from the tip, they can take a victory from the resilient Knicks.

Lakers Key Player: (F-C) Anthony Davis

The Los Angeles Lakers escaped their last game with a victory, but most important was the stellar play of Anthony Davis. When he’s aggressive, there’s no player in the NBA that can match up with him.

Davis is coming off of a game where he posted 30 points, 10 rebounds, 6 assists, 5 blocks, and 4 steals. His all-around performance was breath-taking, shooting an efficient 11 of 19 from the field.

The Lakers may not have the services of LeBron James for this match, but with Davis’ production, they may be okay. Davis must put in a strong defensive shift though, as Knicks big man Julius Randle is one of the most versatile in the league.

How Can the Knicks beat the Lakers?

The Knicks have seen their fair share of issues over their last six games. They are 2-4, showing their struggles without a proper center in the lineup.

Over their last six games the Knicks have been out-rebounded by 4.2 per game and have allowed 12.0 offensive rebounds per game. With Noel as the only dedicated center, the Knicks’ strength on the interior drops off significantly from there.

Against a team with a glut of capable big men, the Knicks need to rebound as a unit to make up for the difference. The only guard who averages more than 3.5 rebounds per game in RJ Barrett, so the bench unit must step up.

Knicks Key Player: (F) Julius Randle

The New York Knicks got off to a great start, but as their All-Star big man struggled so did they. Randle bounced back in his last game, and the Knicks will hope that’s a sign of better things to come.

Randle’s stats are down across the board compared to last season, but he is coming off of a 34-point, 10 rebound game on 13 of 19 shooting from the field.

He’ll draw one of the NBA’s best defenders in Anthony Davis in this match, so he’ll need to show his scoring is back on track. If Randle’s form maintains, the Knicks have a good chance at victory.
