LAL: Get Out on Shooters!

The Los Angeles Lakers are coming off of a win over the Denver Nuggets. They were able to hold Denver to just 89 points, mostly due to their willingness to close out on shooters.

The Lakers held the Nuggets to just 25% shooting from three, allowing just six three-pointers on the night.

Coming up against the league’s most accurate three-point shooting team in the Clippers, the Lakers will need to be quick to the three-point line again to win this matchup.

Lakers Key Player: (F) Anthony Davis

Lakers forward Anthony Davis hasn’t consistently looked like himself since returning from injury, but in his last game against the Nuggets, he showed how effective he can still be.

Davis posted 25 points, seven rebounds, and three blocks on 47.4% shooting from the field.

The Clippers are a versatile defensive team, but like many, they lack any that could match up perfectly with Davis. Shorthanded, Lakers coach Frank Vogel needs Davis to impact the game from tip.

LAC: Pick Your Chances

The LA Clippers are coming off of a win over the Toronto Raptors. In that game, they showed that, even without optimal output, they’re a team that can turn a game in an instant.

With Kawhi Leonard being locked down by his former teammates in the Toronto Raptors, it was Paul George who stepped up in the closing frame to win LA the game. You could call it a scrappy effort, but LA just knew when to take their chances.

Against a Lakers team that is going to try and lock them down in the halfcourt, LA must be able to manufacture key opportunities when necessary. Every Clippers starter had at least two assists, a trend that is more than welcome to continue.

Clippers Key Player: (F) Kawhi Leonard

In his last game against the Toronto Raptors, Kawhi Leonard struggled to find his opportunities.

In 33 minutes of play, Leonard posted a modest 13 points, five assists, and three rebounds. Rather than being swarmed on the ball, Leonard’s touches were simply limited – only six field-goal attempts on the evening.

For the Clippers to win decidedly, Leonard must be aggressive. The Lakers have nobody that can match him one-on-one defensively, so he needs to establish his presence early.
