The Lakers are struggling in both directions, while the Jazz’s current standing is no gimmick. Without Davis in the paint, the Lakers don’t seem to have any answers for the Jazz’s stout two-way play.

When you look at the Lakers’ current form, you’d have to imagine they can’t wait for the All-Star Break to come along. Without Anthony Davis for a number of games now, the Lakers haven’t looked like the NBA Championship-winning side they’re billed to be.
Despite having a 17-point lead in their last match against the Washington Wizards, the Lakers gave up their advantage and were forced into overtime. An overtime period, which the Lakers promptly lost.
Los Angeles won’t have the same luxuries against a team of Utah’s quality. Their defensive standards are high and the Lakers have been struggling offensively. Maintaining their defensive standards, even without Schroder and Davis, is the key for the Lakers.
Usually famed for their defensive prowess, the Utah Jazz have found their way to the top of the Western Conference by pairing that with a dangerous attack.
Led by Donovan Mitchell, the Utah Jazz are producing offensive output that ranks them tenth overall in effective field-goal percentage over the past 25 years. Not only can they play with pace, but they’re pragmatic in the half-court, moving to a near five-out offence that has made them one of the most capable perimeter scoring teams in the NBA.
Without Anthony Davis in the paint, the Jazz can’t forget to attack the rim. But it’s nice to know they can rely on an excellent shooting game should their paint attack fail.
Montrezl Harrell with the exclamation point on this win❗️ #NBAAllStar pic.twitter.com/bqYwZ3LEa7
— Los Angeles Lakers (@Lakers) February 9, 2021
The Los Angeles Lakers have lost two of their most valuable offensive options to injury. They’ve struggled since, but one player that has thrived is Montrezl Harrell.
In his last game against the Washington Wizards, Harrell was massive. He posted 26 points, nine rebounds, and two blocks on 58.8% shooting from the field.
He’ll be outmatched in terms of size against the Jazz, but that’s nothing new. His willingness to hit the glass and collect offensive rebounds is exactly what can help the Lakers find success.

Denied by Rudy Gobert … TWICE pic.twitter.com/tJnEfKvmZY
— NBA on ESPN (@ESPNNBA) February 23, 2021
Likely the NBA’s leader for the Defensive Player of the Year Award, Rudy Gobert continues his tremendous season.
In his last match, a win against the Charlotte Hornets, Rudy Gobert contributed 10 points, 12 rebounds, and an incredible six blocks! He’ll be crucial against the Los Angeles Lakers.
The Lakers are not incredibly efficient from three-point range, so Gobert’s ability to protect the rim will be key to their defensive gameplan. Forcing the Lakers to pass out to their lesser shooters will be dependent on Gobert’s effectiveness defensively.
