Milwaukee Bucks (Away)

Head Coach: Mike Budenholzer {All-Time 271-217 | ATL, MIL}

Projected Starting Five: (G) Eric Bledsoe – (G) Pat Connaughton – (G) Sterling Brown – (F) Giannis Antetokounmpo – (C) Brook Lopez

The Milwaukee Bucks are sitting comfortably at the top of the Eastern Conference. With a record of 58-20, the Bucks have a three game lead over the Toronto Raptors and with four games left to go, it looks like they’ll lock up the East – barring a massive collapse.

Despite a glut of injuries, the Milwaukee Bucks have toughed out their recent schedule to keep them at the top of the table. They are 7-3 in their last ten matches and have maintained their +9.3 point differential in that time.

They take on a dangerous Philadelphia 76ers team that are sure to want to prove their ability against the top of the East. The Bucks will have a difficult time, considering the number of injuries they own, but the Bucks system should allow some lesser-used players to shine if they can convert on their shots.

Philadelphia 76ers (Home)

Head Coach: Brett Brown {All-Time 176-311 | PHI}

Projected Starting Five: (G) Ben Simmons – (G) JJ Redick – (F) James Ennis – (F) Tobias Harris – (C) Boban Marjanovic

It looks as if the Philadelphia 76ers will enter the NBA Playoffs with the third seed of the Eastern Conference. The Sixers own a 49-28 record so far this season but are being very cautious about their roster going into this late period in the season. They are looking forward to a deep playoff run but will need all hands on deck to make it happen.

The Philadelphia 76ers have done their best to keep their place in the East. They now have a likely insurmountable 5.5 game lead over the fourth place Philadelphia 76ers. They are 7-3 in their last ten games, putting them in place for a 3-6 matchup in the postseason.

The Sixers are lacking key contributors Joel Embiid and Jimmy Butler for this match. Luckily for Philadelphia, on the other end, the Bucks are missing a number of their own key contributors. It will be a battle of the reserve units when these two teams matchup. Ben Simmons will have to be the catalyst for that squad.

What’s at Stake?

The Milwaukee Bucks and the Philadelphia 76ers have maintained a very competitive all-time series. In 209 games, the Bucks lead the Sixers 108-101.

The Milwaukee Bucks would push themselves to a 3.5 game lead over the Toronto Raptors who trail them in second place in the Eastern Conference.

A win for the Philadelphia 76ers would give them a four-game lead over the Boston Celtics, almost entirely securing third place in the Eastern Conference for themselves.

Questions to answer

Where should the Bucks look for production?

Are the Sixers trying to find balance for Embiid?

We are going to compare the Milwaukee Bucks and the Philadelphia 76ers in an attempt to see who has the advantage in this matchup.

The Bucks are down Seven Players

The Milwaukee Bucks have had a terrific season to this point, pushing to the top of the NBA’s Eastern Conference without the slightest hitch in their plans. They are beginning to feel the season at this point though, as seven of their main rotation pieces are out of the lineup.

In their last match against the Brooklyn Nets, the Bucks fielded some unique lineups. Sterling Brown, Pat Connaughton, Tim Frazier, and DJ Wilson all saw themselves play at least 20 minutes in the match. They produced admirably and efficiently in a surprising win over the Brooklyn Nets.

With just four games left to play it doesn’t seem like the Bucks will slip at all down the rankings. They had veteran George Hill contribute 20 points off the bench, but the truth of the matter is that their reserve unit is embarrassingly thin. They will either need to produce with the same efficiency as last game or have Antetokounmpo take on the majority of the scoring load if they hope to win.

The Sixers Have Struggled to Fit Embiid in all Season

There is no doubt that Embiid is one of the most valuable players on the Sixers, if not in the entirety of the NBA in this season. In terms of usage, he is second to only James Harden. He also has the duty of patrolling the paint and stifling guards off of screens. With all of those responsibilities, the Sixers are assessing their options going into the playoffs, without him on the court.

Embiid is not expected to play in this match for the Philadelphia 76ers and for good reason. He is projected to play more games than ever before in his career and the load on him seems significant. In the meantime, the Sixers are looking at almost every lineup combination in hopes of spelling their star center.

In the Sixers last match, which was a loss, to the Mavericks, the Sixers played all thirteen available players in that game. It was clear that they were looking for combinations that can produce when their stars were out of the game. Only TJ McConnell did anything of note, so the project is still on for Philly. What is certain is that the Sixers need Embiid to win, but can’t ride him at the risk of his health.

Head-to-Head: Giannis Antetokounmpo (MIL) vs Ben Simmons (PHI)

When the Milwaukee Bucks and the Philadelphia 76ers meet up they will be missing a number of important pieces. Cue point-forwards Giannis Antetokounmpo and Ben Simmons. Without a number of their role players available, each team will depend on their star playmakers to get their lesser used pieces going.

Giannis Antetokounmpo

Power Forward | 6-11, 242lb (211cm, 109kg) | Greece | Exp. 5 Years

27.4 PPG | 5.9 APG | 12.5 RPG | 1.3 SPG | 1.5 BPG | 3.8 TOV | .577 FG% | .246 3P%

In this matchup, Giannis Antetokounmpo has the advantage offensively. Going to the basket he is almost unstoppable and he has shown a limited ability to convert from three-point range. He is missing a number of his most capable three-point options, so expect the Greek Freak to take on more of the scoring burden in this game.

Ben Simmons

Point Guard | 6-10, 230lb (208cm, 104kg) | LSU | Exp. 1 Years

17.1 PPG | 7.8 APG | 8.9 RPG | 1.4 SPG | 0.8 BPG | 3.5 TOV | .566 FG% | .000 3P%

In a loss to the Dallas Mavericks, Ben Simmons was rather inefficient despite putting up a solid line on the evening. Despite shooting 5-15 on the night, Simmons was able to get to the free-throw line 11 times to make up for his field-goal percentage. His distribution will be key, as the Sixers less talented bench will need Simmons’ service.
