DEN: Diversify Scoring

The Denver Nuggets were humbled in Game 2 against the Suns and they’ll be looking for revenge in Game 3. A consistent issue for them through their first two matches was their lack of creativity on the offensive end.

While injuries are still limiting the Nuggets, it’s not excuse for their losses. Frankly speaking, the Suns’ star players are outplaying the Nuggets’ star players. Jokic is the main playmaker for the Nuggets, but the Suns defence has caught on to their schemes and regularly force them into difficult shots.

The Nuggets have talented guards, so you’d expect them to take on a larger role in Michael Malone’s offence in order to spell Jokic’s usage. If they can’t step up, the Suns have the formula to defeat them.

Nuggets Key Player: (C) Nikola Jokic

Game 2 certainly didn’t proceed how Nikola Jokic would want after being presented his NBA Most Valuable Player award.

The Joker put on a decent performance, posting 24 points, 13 rebounds, and six assists in 29 minutes of play. His teammates couldn’t reward his playmaking though, and the Suns led for 46:40 of the game.

Jokic seems to be doing all he can offensively, but could certainly be more selfish. If the rest of his starting five are shooting just of 32 from the field, it would definitely be more fruitful to pursue his own scoring.

PHO: Keep Up the Defensive Pressure

The Phoenix Suns are playing excellent basketball, having gone 5-0 in their last five games. They’ve been excellent on the defensive side of the ball, explaining their success.

Phoenix have only allowed 96.0 points per game over their last five games, their best defensive stretch of the playoffs and the 2020-2021 NBA season.

Yes, the Nuggets are struggling due to injury. However, they’re still incredibly dangerous so the Suns’ defence should still be commended. If they can continue to make life difficult for the Nuggets offence, Phoenix could go up 3-0 in the series.

Suns Key Player: (G) Chris Paul

Veteran point guard Chris Paul was masterful in the Phoenix Suns’ last performance against the Denver Nuggets.

Paul posted 17 points and 15 assists in 30 minutes of play. He was a game-high plus-26 on the evening.

The Suns are thriving off of Paul’s mastery of the pick-and-roll, and the Nuggets are struggling to keep up. If he continues his play, Paul could just lead his Suns to a 3-0 record.
