How Can the Raptors Beat the Nets?

The Toronto Raptors are looking to cut off their losing streak before it reaches three games straight. If they want to beat the Nets, Toronto must maintain their effort through all four quarters.

In the Raptors’ last game, a loss to the Hawks, Toronto started off strong by winning the first quarter 37-32. However, they faded from there, failing to shoot above 30% for the second and third quarter and digging themselves into an inescapable hole.

The Nets aren’t the most talented defensive team in the NBA, so it’ll be crucial for Toronto to establish an efficient offense early. A high pace is useless if it can’t be maintained.

Raptors Key Player: (G) Fred Vanvleet

The Toronto Raptors All-Star Fred Vanvleet will look to recover after his last game. Despite leading the team in scoring, he faded as the game went on.

In his last game, a loss to the Atlanta Hawks, Vanvleet posted 14 points, 9 assists, and 3 rebounds on 8 of 22 shooting from the field.

Vanvleet started strong, going 5 of 9 in the first quarter. But he proceeded to shoot 3 of 13 for the rest of the game. If Toronto wants a shot at victory, Vanvleet needs to be consistent.

How Can the Nets Beat the Raptors?

The Brooklyn Nets are coming off of a solid win against the Milwaukee Bucks. However, due to the unavailability of Kyrie Irving in New York-based games, they’ll need to find their offence without him.

The Toronto Raptors don’t have the best percentages on the defensive side of the court, but they’re excellent at controlling the pace. The Raptors allow just 84.3 field goal attempts per game and force 16.1 turnovers per game, good enough for second in the league.

Brooklyn are a ball movement oriented team, it is what opens up their perimeter shooting. Against a versatile and speedy defensive lineup, Brooklyn can’t afford to make too many mistakes.

Nets Key Player: (G) Goran Dragic

The Brooklyn Nets will reunite Goran Dragic with his former team the Toronto Raptors in their third meeting this season. After an encouraging debut off the bench, Dragic will look to show Toronto what they missed out on.

In a win against the Milwaukee Bucks, Dragic posted 6 points, 3 rebounds, and 2 assists in 14 minutes of play off the bench.

Dragic isn’t expected to be a game changer, but his veteran leadership off the bench will help the short-handed Nets team. If he can produce with his shooting, the Nets can be competitive.
