Washington Wizards vs Atlanta Hawks Predictions and Picks

Our Pick
It was a closely contested affair in their last meeting on Monday. While Atlanta came out with a win in their last game, the Wizards’ shooting and surprising strength on the inside could give them the edge.

WAS: Don’t Be Shy

The Washington Wizards look to be secure in their Play-In position, but they still want to improve their standing as best they can. In their last game against the Hawks, the Wizards showed how pace will determine their success.

The Wizards always have a chance in any game, as they play at a tremendous pace. Washington attempted an incredible 100 field goal attempts, converting on 51 of those shots.

Head coach Scott Brooks surely believes that his team can make up any deficit. The key for them in this game is making sure that the deficit isn’t too great to overcome with the time remaining on the clock.

Wizards Key Player: (F) Davis Bertans

I genuinely believe Davis Bertans is more comfortable from 30 feet than he is taking layups pic.twitter.com/sdoVdStJBo

Russell Westbrook will get most of the attention from the media, but Davis Bertans has an impact that few other Wizards players can compete with.

For most of the game, Bertans had very little impact, scoring just three points until the fourth quarter. But come the fourth, where Bertans played all but 18 seconds of it, the Latvian forward caught fire. He contributed 12 points on 4 of five shooting from the field, all of his field goals being threes.

If Bertans can get going early, the Wizards may not have to fight back so hard to get in the game. Finding his shot in the early periods will signal good things for the Wizards.

ATL: Play With Composure

The Atlanta Hawks had control for the majority of their match against the Washington Wizards, but when they face them again they can’t be so complacent.

In their last game against the Wizards, the Hawks had a 100 to 81 point lead with 11 minutes to go in the fourth quarter. Unfortunately, the Hawks’ defence fell apart, and their offence couldn’t keep up. The Hawks were outscored 45 to 29 in the fourth, but barely squeezed out a victory.

The Hawks can’t afford a collapse in this next meeting with Washington. Losing composure is a signal of a young team, but the Hawks need to grow up quickly against the dangerous Wizards.

Editor’s Picks

Hawks Key Player: (C) Clint Capela

Go ahead big fella ? pic.twitter.com/6ubdFn0ks9

— Atlanta Hawks (@ATLHawks) May 11, 2021

While the game will focus around the star guard pair of Trae Young and Russell Westbrook, it was Clint Capela who was incredibly impactful against the Wizards.

As the Wizards look to run-and-gun their way to victory, it is Capela who is securing the end of defensive possessions for the Hawks. He posted just ten points, but collected 22 rebounds and four blocks in their winning effort.

Capela was the obvious winner against Alex Len and Robin Lopez, and nothing is expected to change that. His pick-and-roll play with Trae Young is difficult to guard for the Wizards.
