NC State vs Pittsburgh: Wolfpack Desperate to Finish Season with a Win

This weekend marks the final games of the college basketball season, meaning conference tournaments are around the corner. While neither of these teams will be hoisting the ACC regular season title, both will be looking to add a win and boost their resume ahead of Selection Sunday.

The Wolfpack enter tonight’s game losing nine of their previous 14 games. The run has tanked their March Madness hopes, meaning they’ll need to make a run in the ACC Tournament if they want their season to extend past next week.

Things have been better for the Panthers, who have won eight of their previous ten games. That run includes a road win against NC State. Pitt is currently viewed as a bubble team, meaning they will be plenty motivated to add another win to their resume tonight.

Below, we will break down everything you need for this ACC matchup and provide our predictions to help you bet confidently.

NC State vs. Pittsburgh Preview

NC State has struggled on the road this season, going 4-6. The Wolfpack have not been reliable against the spread this season, covering just 44.8% of their games. However, they have covered four of their six games as a road underdog.

The Wolfpack had started the season 13-4 but have gone 4-9 since then. The team has a few holes, but their struggle to score consistently is the biggest. Guard DJ Horne (17.2 PPG) has led the way, making 42.9% of his three-point attempts this season. However, the rest of the lineup features streaky shooters who can’t be relied upon from week to week, leading NC State to be tenth in the ACC in field goal percentage (44.3%).

Pitt has been solid at home this season, going 12-5. The Panthers are covering the spread 66.7% of the time this season and 71.4% when they are a home favorite.

Like NC State, the Panthers also struggle to find consistency on offense. However, they make up for it by playing well on defense. Pitt ranks fourth in the ACC in opponent scoring (67.3 PPG) and first in three-point percentage (30.7%). They also do an excellent job holding onto the ball, averaging the second-fewest turnovers (9.2 TO) in the conference.

Pitt beat NC State 67-64 on the road on February 7, the lone meeting between these two teams.

NC State vs. Pittsburgh Predictions & Pick

We held out hope for this NC State for a long time, but no longer. While their schedule has been challenging, it is clear they do not belong among the top leagues in the conference. Conversely, Pitt has won ten of their previous 13 games. That run has included impressive wins against Duke, Wake Forest, Virginia, and the NC State team they will be facing tonight.

We fully expect the Panthers to cover tonight’s game. When NC State is winning, DJ Horne and the rest of the team make their shots from deep. Pitt does an excellent job of taking that away, and it will lead to a lopsided loss in Pittsburgh tonight.

NC State Wolfpack vs Pittsburgh Panthers Pick: Pitt -6.5 (-110 at FanDuel Sportsbook)
