The NFL schedule makers have set up a great NFC cross-divisional battle for Week 8 with the NFC West’s last place 3-4 Arizona Cardinals traveling northeast to take on the NFC North’s first place 5-1 Minnesota Vikings, with a conference win here going a long way towards the end of the season tie-breakers.
This is an interesting matchup because the underdog Cardinals are ranked higher than the favorited Vikings on both sides of the ball, but Minnesota has a better record while Arizona is struggling to reach .500, a more makable goal now that WR DeAndre Hopkins is back after a six-game suspension, his veteran contributions to the offense enough to change the outcome of this game.
Keep in mind that Minnesota has failed to cover the spread in each of their last four games against NFC opponents, so the outcome could be close enough for the Cardinals to extend that streak for the Vikes who are no doubt as well rested as they can be after enjoying a bye in Week 7, whereas the Cardinals now have eight players who are listed as questionable to play.
For anyone new to sports betting, this points total wager makes a game more exciting since it doesn’t matter which team wins so long as together they score either over or under what the oddsmakers predict, and in this case the experts think the Cards and Vikes will score a combined total of 49 points, so the job of the bettor is to guess whether the actual number will be more or less than that.
Arizona’s offense typically scores 22.3 points per game while Minnesota’s offense posts an average of 23.2 points per game, and that total of 45.5 is well under what the oddsmakers have predicted, while the Cardinals’ defense has allowed 25.1 points per game and the Vikings’ defense has allowed 19.7, that total of 44.8 again plenty under what this wager allows.
Here are two more reasons to bet the under here – first the NFL’s 2022 has been the lowest scoring season in a decade, and secondly each of Arizona’s last six road games have gone under the total points line, plenty of signs that it is the best bet here unless you have some insider information that these teams will play above the way they typically produce.

Last week during the Cardinals' beating of the Saints, the TV cameras focused in on some major heated words between QB Kyler Murray and HC Kliff Kingsbury, an outer sign of some internal frustrations that the team is no doubt feeling during this up and down season, but regardless they have won eight of their last nine games as road underdogs so expect them to do the same thing here.
Here is how this Week 8 money line wager will work – if you believer that the underdog Arizona Cardinals will outright defeat the favored Minnesota Vikings, then place a $100 money line bet here and if you are correct and the Cards win, that wager would pay you $162 plus your original investment, a decent pay day for anyone who thinks that Arizona can win their third road game of the season.
For fans of the Vikings, however, it will take a $190 money line bet to win a $100 return plus your original investment, a higher risk until you see how many of the opposition’s players are listed as questionable to play including PK Matt Prater (hip) and RB Darrel Williams (knee), two key playmakers and point scorers whose absence or substandard play could effect the final score of this matchup.
