This should be a fun matchup to see since it is an AFC East battle between two (or maybe three?) young QBs as the New England Patriots led by either Mac Jones or rookie Bailey Zappe travel south to face the New York Jets with the undefeated Zach Wilson under center, so far a winner despite only completing 57.4% of his passes and posting more INTs (2) than TDs (1).
If you believe in momentum take the Jets since they are on a four-game winning streak ever since Wilson began starting under center, but if you trust Patriots GOAT HC Bill Belichick to rebound off an embarrassing Week 7 MNF loss to the Chicago Bears, 14-33, then take them to cover this narrow spread, almost a PICK ‘EM game so check back at game time for shifting odds.
New England has not covered the spread in five of their last six games against AFC opponents, so if you think that trend will continue then take the Jets and the points, the hometown factor is a big deal in this case since the noisy NY fans know these divisional results affect the postseason tiebreakers at the end of the regular season that helps determine what teams go to the playoffs.

The oddsmakers are lowballing the total score of this game as the Points Total bet is set at 40.5, so it is the bettors' fun job to figure out whether the Pats and Jets will find the endzone a lot this Sunday or if they will continue the league trend of posting low scoring games, a surprising part of the 2022 regular season given the offensively focused nature of modern pro football.
Five of New York’s last six home games against New England have gone under the total points line but compare that with how often these two teams typically score – the Patriots offense averages 22.1 points per game and the Jets average 22.7 points per game, or 44.8 total – a challenging choice here even after you consider how these defenses have been playing.
New England has the 15th-ranked defense, a unit that allows opponents to score 20.9 points per game, whereas New York has the 10th-best defense. They allow the teams they play to score 19.6 points per game, that total of 40.5 right on the button with what the oddsmakers are predicting, maybe not quite be enough proof to bet either way in this case, so we take the under.

The Jets have won their last four games ever since QB Zach Wilson took over as the starter and the New England Patriots are coming off a humiliating loss to the Bears on national TV, less rested than NY but far more agitated from Week 7, making this Money Line bet all the more challenging to guess as to which of these two teams will win outright.
Under HC Robert Saleh, the Jets are 5-2 and near the top of the AFC East whereas the Patriots are 3-4 and in the AFC East basement led by HC Belichick who is no doubt figuring out how to neutralize whatever top things the New York Jets do best including whatever newly acquired RB James Robinson brings now that rookie playmaker Breece Hall (ACL) is out for the season.
For newer gamblers: a $124 Money Line bet on the Patriots will earn you $100 plus your original bet if New England wins whereas a $100 Money Line bet on the Jets to win would payout $102 plus your wager, both solid bets for fans of these teams looking to put a bit of “skin in the game” and make this already exciting NFL Week 8 AFC East battle even more thrilling.
