After a wild night in the NHL last night, only two games are being played this Wednesday night. These two games, however, are not only Eastern Conference matchups but matchups between divisional rivals and the Atlantic. One game will have significant playoff implications, while another will have soul bragging rights. By the way, these four divisional rivals will look to dominate and either take the series 3-1 or tie the series overall.

Kicking off the night in the NHL is an Eastern Conference battle between two teams that are not going to have much of a future path to the playoffs this season. The Ottawa Senators (30-36-4) go on the road to take on the Buffalo Sabres (34-33-5) in an Atlantic Divisional matchup.
The Senators are the next Eastern Conference team to be on the chopping block to be eliminated from contention for the NHL playoffs. They are on a two-game winning streak with a 5-2 win over the New Jersey Devils on the road and a 5-3 win at home over the Edmonton Oilers this past Sunday.
The Sabres have been up-and-down within the past few weeks as they haven’t been able to keep some sort of consistency with winning to keep up with the other Eastern Conference teams. The Sabres are coming off a 4-1 road win over the Calgary Flames.
Tonight’s matchup will be the fourth and final game between these two divisional rivals. The two teams haven’t faced each other since January 11. The Sabres have outscored the Senators 12-9 in the three games played.
While Buffalo’s offense averages 2.97 goals per game (20th in the league), the Senators’ defense has been a significant problem this season as they rank 29th in the league in goals allowed per game (3.56). The Sabres should be efficient enough to take the series 3-1.

The Eastern Conference is loaded with dangerous, elite teams that can make a serious run at the Stanley Cup Finals title. Two teams that have yet to lock in their spots in the postseason, but potentially win soon are the Boston Bruins (42-16-15) and the Tampa Bay Lightning (39-25-7).
On Wednesday night, the Lighting will host the Bruins for a big-time Atlantic Divisional rivalry matchup. Tampa Bay took the series lead early in the season with a 5-4 home in overtime. Boston won the first game of the new year at home on January 6 with a 7-3 score, but the Lightning got their revenge just a little over a month later in Boston with a 3-2 win in a shootout. This game tonight is the fourth and final time these two rivals will meet on the ice during the regular season.
Boston has won four of the six games, with its most recent win being a big 4-3 road victory over the Florida Panthers. Before that the Bruins fell at home to the New York Rangers, who just became the first team to secure a playoff spot, and at the Philadelphia Flyers.
Tampa Bay has been on fire within the last few weeks with their offense playing elite. The Lightning has averaged 4.7 goals per game in the last seven games. Their efficiency on the offensive side of the ice started when they scored seven goals in the 7-0 win over the Flyers, followed by a 6-3 win over the Rangers.
The Bruins are coming into this game with the seventh-ranked scoring defense (2.74 goals allowed per game), but the Lightning are coming into this game with great momentum in their stadium.
