Another game for the San Jose Sharks, another opportunity for an opponent to have their potentially best offensive performance of the season. The Sharks are ranked last in the NHL in goals allowed per game (4.00).
The Boston Bruins will face the Sharks on Thursday night for the second time this season. The last time the Bruins and the Sharks met was on October 19th when the Bruins defeated the Sharks on the road 3-1. It was a game that was too early in the season to determine if the Sharks’ defense was that bad and it was too early for the Bruins to develop a rhythm.
There is a whole roster full of talented players for Boston that can contribute to a huge offensive performance. Center Charlie Coyle is second on the team in points accounted for (19) and end goals scored (9). With the exception of Boston's shocking 5-2 road loss to the Columbus Blue Jackets, Coyle has accounted for a goal or an assist in the previous five games for the Bruins.
The Toronto Maple Leafs have been successful this season in accounting for big wins over Western Conference teams this season. On Thursday, they will have a chance to account for another big win against a Western Conference team by hosting the Seattle Kraken.
The Kraken are a team that has not been able to establish some form of consistency. Seattle's 26 in the league in goals allowed per game (3.48) and they will face an incredibly talented and deep offense in the Maple Leafs.
While Toronto is benefiting from its three main stars, it has been the key role player that has helped keep the offense afloat. Following star forwards William Nylander and Mitchell Marner in most assists accounted for this season, center John Tavares and defender Morgan Rielly lead the team in assists accounted for (13).
Rielly has accounted for an assist in two of the last four games this season. With only three goals accounted for this season, creating scoring opportunities for his teammates is the biggest contribution on the offensive side of the ice he can provide.
One of the biggest divisional games of the night is set for a huge matchup in the desert as the Colorado Avalanche go on the road to take on the Arizona Coyotes, who are one of the league’s best surprises.
The Avalanche had turned into one of the most explosive offenses in the league thanks to a combination of their big three and several key role players. Colorado is ranked third in the league in goals per game (3.76).
The calories have certainly improved on the defensive side of the ice than last season. They are, however, tied for 14th in the league in goals allowed per game (3.05).
Avalanche center Nathan McKinnon has a chance to have another huge game much like he has happened in the past eight games. He has accounted for two points in five of the last eight games, including the last two.
