The Florida Panthers (4-3) have a tough game ahead of themselves as they go on the road to take on the Boston Bruins (7-0-1), one of two teams to not have suffered a loss in regular periods this season. The Panthers are going to need all the productivity they can get from their star players to potentially upset the Bruins.
One player that the Panthers will call on Monday night is center Evan Rodrigues, who is in his first season with the team. Rodrigues played for Boston University for four seasons before becoming a key player as a former undrafted free agent.
In seven games played this season, Rodrigues has accounted for eight points, which is the second-most on the team. He has scored two goals while accounting for a team-high six assists.
The Bruins possess the top-ranked scoring defense this season, as they allow an average of 1.5 goals per game.
One of the best NHL matchups in Monday’s slate of games is set between the Carolina Hurricanes (5-4) and the Philadelphia Flyers (5-4-1). This game has the potential to be a high-scoring matchup, which should give plenty of opportunities for stars and key role players to make a big impact.
The Hurricanes have the third-worst defense in the league as they allow an average of 3.89 goals per game. This could be a great game for the Flyers’ top three performers in right-wing Travis Konecny, defender Travis Sanheim and right-wing Cam Atkinson.
Sanheim isn’t the dominant scorer as his other Flyer teammates, but he provides a key role to the offense. In eight games played, Sanheim has accounted for one goal and a team-high seven assists. He has a chance to make a key impact on the Flyers’ offense, but he will need to watch out for potential steals.
The New York Rangers (6-2) have been one of the impressive teams that do not possess an undefeated record. What makes them great is their defensive efficiency, as they are ranked second in the league in goals allowed per game (2.00), only behind the Boston Bruins (1.5).
The Rangers have a chance to continue their defensive dominance as they go on the road to take on the Winnipeg Jets (4-3-1). The Jets are tied for 12th in the league in goals per game (3.38), but they are among one of the worst power play scoring offenses at 12.9%.
The Rangers have two great goalies, but they might even have shot blockers in defenders Jacob Trouba and Nick Bonino. At 35 years old, Bonino has accounted for 28 blocked shots.
Jacob Trouba has accounted for a team-high 29 blocked shots in eight games for an average of 3.6 blocked shots per game. He is averaging 20:32 minutes on the ice so he will have many opportunities to account for more than three blocked shots.
