Washington is looking to regain their Metropolitan Division crown from the New York Rangers and their momentum of 2021. They lost their last contest in overtime against the lowly Devils of all teams and now find themselves staring down what should be a dogfight in St. Louis. You have two quality teams here that could really do some damage on the scoreboard. Meanwhile, these Blues are also in a similar position looking to surpass Nashville again in the Central for the top spot. Both teams have a lot on the line in this one as they each need to maintain their momentum and attain ground in the early 2022 standings race.
While the Caps are a strong road team, St. Louis has been too hot at home winning nine of their last 10 on home ice. We like the Blues to continue to soar with a 4-2 win.

Not enough can be said about these Blues on home ice. While they have taken nine of their last ten at the Enterprise Center, that record actually reads 9-0-1 with an overtime loss to Anaheim on December 12th. This record actually dates all the way back to their last home loss to Arizona way back on November 16th. Washington will have their hands full in this one, but these Caps are no road pushovers as they’ve picked up points in 13 of their 16 away games this season entering this tilt.
Fabricating momentum is not an easy thing to do, but Washington needs to find a way to create it and keep it. They’ve had some big wins as of late. They defeated the Central Division-leading Nashville Predators on December 29th, along with the Central contending Winnipeg Jets on the 17th. However, these Caps haven’t been able to bottle any of that juice and stay hot. They’ve recently lost to Chicago twice, New Jersey, Los Angeles and even the last place Seattle Kraken back on November 21st. These guys just can’t defeat the bottom feeders.
With all of that said, perhaps taking on a team more in their weight class may actually be a good thing for Washington. Another thing they will have going for is their recent run of offense. They’ve scored 22 goals in their last six games which is among the highest tallies in the league through that stretch. Led by captain Alex Ovechkin’s extremely impressive 50 points in 34 games, the Caps have the third-highest goal differential in the NHL at +30.

As mentioned above, these Blues have been virtually unbeatable at the Enterprise Center. Given, it’s a new year and some teams are starting to show a little bit of wear and tear, the blue and yellow have found a way to stay the healthy and ready night in and night out.
Led by Vladimir Tarasenko’s team-leading 14 goals and 34 points, St. Louis has found success through parity. A grand total of 12 players have double-digit point tally’s thus far – three of which are defensemen. Another plus for the Blues is that all six of their top defenseman have a positive plus/minus. That’s also something that is a total rarity around the league. Now combine all of that with a scorching home record through their last ten and you’ve got a good-looking outlook for the rest of the season let alone Friday night.
Washington has won five of their last seven against Central opponents. Meanwhile, St. Louis has won seven of their last eight when listed as the home favorite.
