Finland has emerged as the early favorite for Eurovision 2026, but the prediction markets are throwing up some curveballs ahead of the May 16 final in Vienna, Austria.

Despite strong entries from the Nordic countries, the title could leave Europe for the first time thanks to a star-powered hit from Australia.

The Eurovision 2026 winner prediction markets started to percolate in mid-January when Finland and Denmark gained some early momentum. Following an early fall from grace, France rejoined the party in February, but it’s Finland with the clear lead right now.

Finland to Win | Yes: 34% at $0.34

More traders on Kalshi are tipping Finland to win this year’s Eurovision Song Contest than not. Despite relatively little interest in Linda Lampenius and Pete Parkkonen in early January, 36% are now behind their plucky track (video above).

Given the nature of prediction markets, that’s a significant percentage in favor of the win. The question, therefore, is why is Finland such a heavy favorite to win Eurovision 2026? Violins and theatrics could be the reason.

Last year’s winning track, Wasted Love, featured somber violin sounds. Singer JJ's operatic vocals and dance music-inspired refrains punctuated these. Similarly, if we go back to 2024, Nemo’s The Code was a flamboyant mix of theatrical vocals and high-energy hip-hop beats.

Liekinheitin, by Linda Lampenius and Pete Parkkonen, is cast in the same mold. The initial plucking of violin strings provides a foundation for a techno-inspired beat. From this, the violin takes center stage as the main accompaniment to Parkkonen’s powerful vocals.

Regarde from France’s Monroe is a creative but potentially divisive entry (video above). Like Finland and Denmark, Monroe sings in her native language. What’s unique about this song is that it feels classically French. Think artists like Édith Piaf and Charles Aznavour.

If viewers buy into the fusion of old and new, Regarde has an excellent chance of winning Eurovision 2026. If, however, they see it as a mockery of all that made traditional French music popular, it could be a disappointing night for Monroe.

Denmark to Win | Yes: 10% at $0.11

Continuing the native language vibe is Denmark’s Søren Torpegaard Lund with Før Vi Går Hjem (video above). It’s less daring than Finland’s offering, but its EDM beat will strike a chord with the crowd.

Lund’s vocals are solid, and his performance gives the song a dramatic edge it would otherwise be lacking. The issue with Før Vi Går Hjem, in our opinion, is that it feels too safe. This, however, may be its greatest strength if viewers are hungry for some classic Euro dance pop.

Eurovision Prediction Market Sleeper

Which country outside of the top three could win the 2026 Eurovision Song Contest? Based on the latest probabilities and star power, Australia is a sleeper pick worth considering.  

Australia to Win | Yes: 7% at $0.07

Australia stands out as this year’s Eurovision prediction market sleeper. Despite being as far from Europe as you can imagine, Australia joined the competition in 2015.

Since then, the country famous for Kyle and Jason has regularly made the finals. Australia’s best Eurovision finish was second in 2016 with Dami Im’s Sound of Silence. This year, they’ve pulled out the big guns in the form of Delta Goodrem.

Music fans will know Goodrem’s biggest-selling singles, including Born to Try. Her Eurovision entry, Eclipse (video above), might not have the same mainstream sound as those hits. However, Goodrem has the voice and the looks to make most songs pop.

The only possible downfall could be Goodrem’s fame. By that, we mean the song fits the Eurovision mold but doesn’t necessarily align with Goodrem’s image. That said, it’s still the best sleeper pick in this year’s Eurovision prediction market.

Why the Eurovision Prediction Market is Moving

The Finnish formula of taking elements from winning songs and stringing them together is likely the reason for its recent rise in the prediction markets. Geopolitics may also be fueling the latest Eurovision prediction market movements.

Finland’s entry, Liekinheitin, is performed entirely in Finnish. With English being the dominant language of conquering nations over the last 500+ years, traders may pick against those who use it.
