The final four teams in the Big East Tournament received byes in the first round and happen to be the top four seeds in the conference.
The top-seeded Marquette Golden Eagles (26-6, 17-3) and the 4-seeded UConn Huskies (25-7, 13-7) will be the first matchup of the night. These teams split their season meetings with one another this year.
Marquette comes into this semifinal game after nearly escaping an early exit against St. John’s on Thursday. But the Golden Eagles are one of the most well-rounded teams in this conference and can score the basketball at a high level. They’re led by sophomore guard Kam Jones (15.3 points/game) and junior guard Tyler Kolek (12.7 points). They’ve helped Marquette average 81 points per game this season -- top-10 in Division I.
But Marquette’s scoring won’t be the deciding factor in this game, it will be their inside presence. In both games against UConn this season, the Huskies have outrebounded the Golden Eagles 48-24 and 35-29.
That’s because UConn features two towers in the middle in 6-foot-9 Adam Sanogo and 7-foot-2 Donovan Clingan. Cligan has 18 combined rebounds against Marquette this season, and Sanogo averages an impressive 16.9 points and 7.2 rebounds on the year. The Huskies can rebound the basketball (offensively and defensively) better than anyone in the country. That might be too much for Marquette to overcome.
UConn enters the game as a 3.5 favorite.
The final Semifinal game will feature 2-seed Xavier Musketeers (24-8, 15-5) and 3-seed Creighton Bluejays (21-11, 14-6). These teams also split their season meetings with one another.
Like Marquette, Xavier can score at a high level. Averaging 82.1 points per game this season lands them fifth in offensive efficiency on KenPom. Souley Boum (16.8), Colby Jones (15.3), Jack Nunge (14.0), and Adam Kunkel (10.3) can all turn it on at any point. They are a scary foursome offensively, especially after they combined for 77 of the team’s 89 points in Thursday’s win against DePaul.
But, Xavier’s defense can be suspect at times, and the loss of star forward Zach Freemantle could hurt them against a very good Creighton team that is highly efficient from the field.
The Bluejays shoot 46.9% from the field and lead the conference with 8.9 threes per game. Creighton’s roster features five double-digit scorers, including back-to-back Big East Defensive Player of the Year Ryan Kalkbrenner. Kalkbrenner might be the biggest headache for Xavier on both sides of the ball after averaging 15.1 points on 70.4% shooting, 6.3 rebounds, and 2.2 blocks per game this season.
In both games between Xavier and Creighton this season, the Bluejays scored 84 and 87 points. The Musketeers can score, but they need to play defense if they want to win this one.
Creighton is more of a trustworthy team in big games, but both teams should be able to score a ton of points.

I am a huge sports fan; locally, many know me as the guy who does the PA for our high school football team on Friday nights. Having grown up in Michigan, I am a sports fan of all the Detroit teams, and at the college level, I love Michigan State sports.
