Best West Virginia Sportsbooks: WV Sports Betting Apps (June 2023)

West Virginia became the fifth state to legalize sports betting in August 2018, but the state has been slower in opening up a wide selection of online sportsbooks compared with others like New Jersey. This is partly due to the comparatively fewer physical casinos in the state, as well legal issues involving state rules and regulations.

What Are West Virginia Sports Betting Bonuses?

Sports betting bonuses are offers created by sportsbooks to entice people to bet with them. The promise of free money, risk-free betting, or special bets are designed to attract the attention of the general public, which sportsbooks hope will be enough to get  them to start betting regularly.

Thinking of it in this way, betting bonuses are a form of marketing. But that doesn’t mean they aren’t also genuinely valuable.

This page has everything you need to know about claiming sports betting bonuses in West Virginia. We take a look at things you should know about sportsbook promotions in general, and we also look at how they play out in West Virginia specifically.

Remember to check out our more detailed page about sports betting bonuses for a comprehensive overview of bonuses in the US.

Who Qualifies for a Betting Bonus in West Virginia?

Anyone who is legally entitled to join a sportsbook and gamble qualifies for betting bonuses. In Virginia, this means you need to be at least 21 years of age.

You can join online, including using mobile apps, or if you prefer you can join in person at one of the West Virginia casinos currently with operating sportsbooks: The Greenbrier or Hollywood Casino.

Most bonuses require users to verify their identity online before they can be claimed. This involves providing personal information, such as digits from your SSN or sometimes documentation like a copy of your driving licence.

How Do I Claim my West Virginia Betting Bonus?

Often sportsbooks will require you to type in a bonus code during the sign up process to claim your bonus, but this is not currently the case with the three online sportsbooks currently available in WV.

All you need to do is create your account, and you will be automatically credited with your welcome bonus. You can check out our full West Virginia betting guide for more info.

What Are the Terms and Conditions for WV Betting Bonuses?

Reading the terms and conditions carefully for any bonus you claim is absolutely essential. The small print can make or break a bonus, so always check it before you get too excited. Below we have listed some of the main things to look out for, and there is an explanation of each in our full guide.

  • Rollover Requirements
  • Minimum Odds

Which West Virginia Sportsbooks Have the Best Bonuses?

Every bettor is different, and what seems like a great bonus for one player might not be too impressive to another. This is largely down to the fact that everyone has different betting habits.

For example, if you intend to play a lot and make regular deposits a reload bonus could be really valuable to you, but not worth much to someone signing up for a one-off bet.

Given that, deciding on the “best” bonus doesn’t really make sense – it’s all subjective. However, since West Virginia only has three sportsbooks with welcome bonuses at the moment, we have collected them below for you to compare.

To get the full story, check out our guide to betting in West Virginia.

DraftKings

While the other sportsbooks’ offers require you to make sizable bets with your own money to make the most of them, DraftKings has one that doesn’t require you to use any of your own money at all.

The No Deposit Bonus is worth $25 in free bets – in the form of 5 different $5 bets. You have 30 days to use the bets, and any winnings do not include the value of the stake.

Alternatively, you can opt for DraftKings other deposit bonus. This bonus is worth up to an impressive $1,000 in the form of a 20% Deposit Bonus worth up to $500, and a $500 Risk Free Bet. This offer is potentially very valuable, but does require a large investment on the part of the player and is also subject to terms and conditions.

Check out our complete review of DraftKings Betting Site and App.

BetMGM

BetMGM offers new customers a Risk Free Bet worth up to $1000, with no opt-in required. To avail of this offer, all you need to do is create an account, make a deposit and place a bet worth up to $1000. If the wager lose, BetMGM will refund your full stake in free bets.

There are some restrictions to watch out for – you only have 7 days to use the Free Bets after you receive them, and if you place a bet worth less than the value of the Free Bet you forfeit the remainder

BetMGM has good promotions for regular players too, who receive a $10 Free Bet every week.

Check out our in-depth review of BetMGM to find out more: BetMGM Sportsbook Review.

FanDuel

FanDuel’s bonus offer is very similar, also a Risk Free Bet worth up to $500. In this case however, your bet is returned in the form of Bonus Cash and you have 14 days to fulfill the play-through requirements. You need to wager the entire value of the bonus cash again to unlock it, with odds shorter than or equal to -200.

FanDuel also has a regular Cashback offer involving parlays with 5 legs or more.

What is the Current Sports Betting Situation in West Virginia?

West Virginia was one of the quickest states to legalize sports betting once the federal ban was removed in May 2018, but it hasn’t been all plain sailing. International and pan-US sportsbooks have been slow to arrive in the state. Some of the local casinos which opened online sportsbooks, Mardi Gras and Wheeling Island, were later forced to close due to a dispute with a former betting partner.

With only three online sportsbooks currently in operation, the state is ripe for expansion. If we want an idea of West Virginia’s future, we can look to the likes of New Jersey which also has FanDuel, DraftKings and MGM sportsbooks. The Garden State currently has 16 different sportsbooks, including big names from Europe in addition to local options. Hopefully West Virginia can look forward to more options and bonuses soon.
