Fans’ favourite Joshua Buatsi takes on Craig Richards at the O2 Arena, London, on Saturday in a bout you can follow live on DAZN. Boxing supremo Eddie Hearn presents another exciting line-up with the main event supported by a competitive undercard featuring some of the UK’s best prospects. Watch the action live on your television or through the DAZN smartphone app.
This is a bout that is scheduled for 12 rounds, but few expect it to test the scoring judges sat at ringside with Buatsi chalked up as the red hot favourite. As the betting odds in the table below shows, traders working at Caesars Sportsbook and other major bookies make this a case of how Buatsi wins rather than if he wins.
In this article, we look at the form of both fighters involved in the top of the bill bout, the betting markets that catch our eye and which bookies are offering the most generous odds.
Joshua Buatsi vs Craig Richards Odds
The odds come from the fight winner market of the Caesars Sportsbook, and the fight is available to bet on today. Prices are correct at the time of writing but are subject to change. Check your betting app for the latest odds.
In addition to the fight winner market, Caesars Sportsbook also offers a wide range of specials. The most popular of these is the fight winner market which comes in handy when wagering on a contest where there is a clear favourite. With the method of victory, you are challenged with predicting both the winner of the fight and how they’ll achieve the result, on points or by knockout.
Joshua Buatsi vs Craig Richards Pick
Buatsi to win by KO/TKO
It is little surprise to see Joshua Buatsi carrying the support of bookmakers who are scrambling to keep on the right side of the unbeaten golden boy of British boxing. We have a competitive contest ahead, but traders know what to expect from Joshua.
They have seen him blow away 13 of his previous 15 opponents in devastating fashion, passing every test put to him so far. He has also boxed and won at a higher level than this, so backers will struggle to get anything of note in the fight winner betting. The odds force us into the specials.
The method of victory market is one of our favourites – as regular readers of our boxing previews already know. That’s because when you take the time to study the form of both fighters, it often throws up a wager worth having. There’s no point backing Buatsi to win, so we are asked to predict how he will win, and another KO/TKO is the obvious choice. Joshua has the size, strength and power to move up to heavyweight, and it’s expected he’ll do just that in future after dominating cruiserweight. He’s a powerful boxer with the skill to back it up.
We suggest backing Buatsi to win by KO/TKO, and that bet will give you an interest for the duration of the contest. Both men are dangerous as long as they are in the fight, and that knockout blow could be delivered in the first minute or last few seconds of the contest.
There is always an option available to boxing bettors looking for bigger odds or a more generous quote. If we stick with our thinking that Buatsi is going to win this bout and do it by KO/TKO, we can then look at predicting the round. Will it be the first or second half of the bout? With three of his last four wins coming in the second half of contests, we expect another long night. Back Buatasi to win in rounds 7-12 for extra interest.
Joshua Buatsi vs Craig Richards Prediction
Buatsi faces a test here, and Richards will be more competitive than the odds suggest. With that in mind, it’s possible to back the underdog and look to cash out for a profit in the middle rounds if you agree with our prediction and take this one to end in the second half.
The favourite has bigger and better things ahead of him but knows he must remain professional and climb the ladder, beating fighters on his way through the ranks. Not only must Buatsi win, but he must also get the job done in style, proving he is above and beyond this level. He wants to show he’s of world championship quality, and nothing has changed since his last outing in August.
In August, we last saw Buatsi stop Ricards Bolotniks at the Matchroom Sport HQ Garden, Brentwood, with that bout wrapped up in the 11th round. It was a competitive contest, although there was never any doubt about who was going to get the win. Joshua has deducted a point in round eight but didn’t let that throw him off his game. He dropped his opponent in round six, and round 11 before referee Howard Foster leapt in to save the beaten man from any further punishment.
We expect more of the same against Craig Richards. Buatsi will enter the ring confident and should pick up the distance with his jab early on. He will take his time building up a comfortable lead on the scorecards before looking for the finish in the later rounds. He has the power to end things early, but his experience has made him a patient fighter who strikes only when the time is right.
