Best MLB Bets Today June 3 and 4

The first weekend of June is set to feature matchups of some of the best teams in the MLB. The New York Yankees remain on the road to take on the Los Angeles Dodgers while the Atlanta Braves remain on the road against the Arizona Diamondbacks. This weekend is also set to feature a matchup between great pitchers that could play a big role in the win as well as create some significant upsets.

Los Angeles Angels @ Houston Astros

  • Time: 4:10 PM E.T. - Saturday
  • Starting Pitchers: Patrick Sandoval (Angels) vs Cristian Javier (Astros)
  • Moneyline: Angels (+150) | Astros (-175)
  • Run Line: Angels +-1.5 (-130) | Rays -1.5 (+110)
  • Total: Over 8.5 (-115) | Under 8.5 (-105)

My Pick: Houston Astros (HOU)

The Houston Astros (34-23) are off to a solid two-win start over the Los Angeles Angels (30-29) in the four-game series. The Astros defeated the Angels on Thursday, June, 1st with a 5-2 score followed by a 6-2 win over the Angels the next day. Houston looks to return to the top of the AL Central while the Angels are looking to avoid a potential sweep.

The Angels will be starting Patrick Sandoval (3.42 ERA in 55.1 innings), one of their more reliable pitchers outside of Shohei Ohtani. While Sandoval isn’t a dominant strikeout pitcher, he limits the opposing teams at the plate. He has allowed 49 hits, 25 runs, and 22 walks through 10 games played and started.

Sandoval will take on the Astros that have not been the most efficient batting team in the NL. The Astros rank in the bottom half of the AL in most of the major batting categories. Houston ranks seventh in the AL in batting average (.246) with second baseman Mauricio Dubon (.290) and rightfielder Kyle Tucker (.281) leading the way.

The Astros will be starting their most reliable pitcher on a loaded and talented team in Cristian Javier (2.97 ERA in 63.3 innings). In 11 games played and started, Javier has allowed 22 runs and 47 hits while delivering 67 strikeouts. He should have a big game against an Angels that has only averaged two runs in the previous two games in the series.

Baltimore Orioles @ San Francisco Giants

  • Time: 10:05 PM E.T. - Saturday
  • Starting Pitchers: Kyle Bradish (Orioles) vs Alex Cobb (Giants)
  • Moneyline: Orioles (+110) | Giants (-130)
  • Run Line: Orioles +1.5 (-175) | Giants -1.5 (+150)
  • Total: Over 8 (-105) | Under 8 (-115)

Odds courtesy of DraftKings Sportsbook

My Pick: Baltimore Orioles (SF)

The Baltimore Orioles (36-21) have had huge wins within the past couple of weeks. The Orioles sweep the Toronto Blue Jays in a three-game series and then defeat their AL East Divisional rival in the New York Yankees in two of the three games. Since then, they lost series to the Texas Rangers and the Cleveland Guardians. They are set to finish a three-game series on the road against the San Francisco Giants (29-30), who have been up and down throughout the season.

Giants’ Logan Webb and Orioles’ Dean Kramer had a tough battle at the mound in the 3-2 win for the Giants. The game could go down to one home run from Giants’ designated hitter Gunnar Henderson in the seventh inning.

The Giants and the Orioles are set to have another stellar pitching matchup on Saturday. Baltimore will have Kyle Bradish (3.89 ERA in 44 innings) starting while San Francisco will have Alex Cobb (3.05 ERA in 62 innings). Bradish allowed 43 hits, 20 runs and five home runs while delivering 36 strikeouts. Cobb allowed 69 hits, 22 runs and six home runs while delivering 57 strikeouts.

This game will come down to which batting team will be the most efficient. The Giants have ranked seventh in the NL in runs accounted for (259), last in strikeouts encountered (561), 10th in batting average (.320) and 10th in on-base percentage (.320). The Orioles rank fourth in the AL in runs accounted for (284), fifth in strikeouts encountered (462), sixth in batting average (.250) and sixth in on-base percentage (.324).

The Orioles have the more reliable batting team going into this game on Saturday. It will not take many runs to put the Giants out of reach due to their poor batting.

Seattle Mariners @ Texas Rangers

  • Time: 2:35 PM E.T. - Sunday
  • Starting Pitchers: Bryce Miller (Mariners) vs Nathan Eovaldi (Rangers)
  • Moneyline: Mariners (+100) | Rangers (-120)
  • Run Line: Mariners +1.5 (-200) | Rangers -1.5 (+175)
  • Total: Over 8 (-105) | Under 8 (-115)

Odds courtesy of DraftKings Sportsbook

My Pick: Texas Rangers (TEX)

The Seattle Mariners (29-28) are a team that are still trying to find their identity in the batting game through the first two months of the season. The Texas Rangers (36-20), on the other hand, have found their identity in the batting game and have become one of the top teams in the league. They will face each other in one of the best pitching performances on Sunday.

The Rangers rank first in the AL in runs accounted for (348), second in hits accounted for (529), fifth in home runs accounted for (71), first in batting average (.272) and second in on-base percentage (.339). Four players for the Rangers have accounted for at least 40 runs this season. Second baseman Marcus Semien has accounted for 49 runs, 68 hits, 15 double-base hits, eight home runs, 44 RBIs, 26 walks, 41 strikeouts, a batting average of .294 and an on-base percentage of .364.

While the Mariners are improving at the plate, they are still miles away from the consistency that the Rangers are. Seattle ranks 11th in runs accounted for (249), 13th in hits (431), ninth in home runs (61), 13th in strikeouts encountered (548), 14th in batting average (.226) and 10th in on-base percentage (.306).

On Sunday, Seattle is set to start Bryce Miller (3.00 ERA in 36 innings), who is becoming a young reliable pitcher. Miller is talented enough to stall a great hitting team. The Rangers are set to conclude the series versus the Mariners with their ace pitcher Nathan Eovaldi (2.42 ERA in 74.1 innings). The Rangers will have the edge in the batting and pitching game, as they will be too much for the Mariners.
