The Mariners haven’t been playing consistent team baseball, but Teoscar Hernandez has been coming up clutch for his club. Hernandez hasn’t stopped hitting over the past week, and it has led to a lot of successful prop tickets. Hernandez is only batting .226 with a .683 OPS, but he does have seven homers on the season, so the power has been present. Recently, he is consistently putting together hits as he is riding a six-game hitting streak into Tuesday’s contest.
Hernandez's season stats, combined with the fact he’ll face Andrew Heaney, have made DraftKings give favorable odds to bettors. Even though Heaney can be a strong pitcher, we expect Hernandez to put together some good at-bats. Heaney has solid strikeout pitches, but his location has been shaky. He has given up seven homers in 29.1 innings, so Hernandez could easily go over his TB prop with one swing.
Nolan Gorman hasn’t been the best hitter as of late, but his total bases odds are too good to pass up in this spot. Gorman is batting .255 with a .844 OPS, which isn’t bad, considering he is just 22 years old. He is coming off a one-hit performance at Wrigley Field, where he will play tonight. DraftKings is offering over 0.5 total bases at -160, and we believe he can hit this mark because of who he’ll face.
Jameson Taillon will take the ball for the Cubs, and he has struggled. He is a good strikeout pitcher but constantly hangs his breaking pitches. Taillon is 0-2 with a 5.29 ERA and a 1.29 WHIP. In 17 innings, he has allowed 18 hits, so look for Gorman to go over his TB total on Tuesday.
Framber Valdez has been one of the best strikeout pitchers in MLB this season. He is just 2-4, but he has given his team multiple chances to win in 2023. The pitcher has 45 strikeouts in 45 innings, with just four homers allowed and ten walks. Valdez’s best quality is his ability to go deep into games, which gives him more chances to record strikeouts. He has gone at least six innings in his past five starts every time. In three of the five appearances, he has gone seven complete innings. More time on the mound leads to more opportunities to record strikeouts, so look for him to be solid against the Angels.
Los Angeles has some strong hitters at the top of their lineup, but they’re hit or miss at the plate. They’re relatively good working counts, but I don’t see this happening tonight against Valdez.
Shohei Ohtani is one of the best pitchers in baseball, and there isn’t a better player on the planet than the Japanese Babe Ruth. He will take the ball against the Astros tonight, and look for him to be sensational. The total on this game is listed at 7.5 because Ohtani and Valdez should put on a pitching clinic.
Ohtani is known for his overwhelming power, combined with sweeping breaking pitches. Yet, he will have a tough time recording strikeouts against the Astros, who have countless tough outs. Ohtani has 59 strikeouts in 39 innings and has gone over 7.5K in three of his past five. However, he hasn’t pitched against a quality offensive opponent like the Astros that don’t strike out. Houston is seventh in baseball in the least strikeouts per game category.
