What do you get when you combine one of the worst offenses in Major League Baseball with an opponent that is struggling mightily at the plate? Hopefully, for our sake, you get a win in the NRFI betting market. That is the goal for the Tuesday night matchup between the New York Yankees and Oakland Athletics, as bettors can expect a slow-moving first inning of play and a pair of zeroes to be on the board.
The Athletics have scored the fewest runs in baseball this season by a rather convincing margin. They are batting just .220 as a team, which is also the worst mark in the league. Both of those things will help Jhony Brito to throw a scoreless first inning, despite his being vulnerable to first inning offense at times throughout this season.
On the flip side, the New York Yankees lineup has not been living up to expectations of late themselves. The absence of Aaron Judge in their lineup has led to the Yankees failing to score more than five runs in a game in 10 straight outings. They will be held scoreless in the first inning here, as that trend could continue on the road in Oakland, en route to a NRFI hit.

Another NRFI bet worth taking on Tuesday night is for a scoreless first inning between the Tampa Bay Rays and Arizona Diamondbacks. There, two very strong starting pitchers will take the hill, as Taj Bradley and Zac Gallen will get the start for their respective clubs. The end result should be a first inning that does not see any runs scored out in Phoenix.
Of course, the main attraction on the mound will be Zac Gallen for the Diamondbacks, who has taken over as the NL Cy Young favorite this season. Gallen is 9-2 this season and has an ERA of just 2.84 in 2023. He should be able to assert control over a Rays team that does rank second in the league in runs scored this season.
Meanwhile, Taj Bradley is more than good enough to keep the Diamondbacks from getting on the scoreboard in the bottom half of the first inning in this game. Bradley is 5-3 on the season but is starting to heat up in a big way, having struck out eight or more batters in consecutive starts. Look for him to miss plenty of bats early in this game to help this contest stay scoreless heading into the second inning of play.

Our final bet on the first inning totals market on Tuesday is a YRFI selection in the game between the Los Angeles Dodgers and Colorado Rockies. While one of the greatest pitchers of this generation is on the mound for the Dodgers in this contest, the field conditions and his opponent should combine to make sure that at least one run is scored in the opening inning of play at Coors Field.
Clayton Kershaw is on the mound for the Dodgers in this contest, who enters as the second favorite in the NL Cy Young race entering this start. Kershaw has struggled historically at Coors Field, though, which is something to keep an eye on in this contest. We could see some early scoring just by virtue of Kershaw continuing to have trouble locating his pitches in an environment that is so different than most in baseball.
On top of that, Connor Seabold is on the mound for the Colorado Rockies, which should mean some early offense for Los Angeles. Seabold is 1-3 this season and has a 5.88 ERA to his name in his 56.2 innings pitched for the season. Against one of the most dangerous lineups in all of baseball, with the Dodgers ranking fourth in the league in runs scored, we should see some early offense at high elevation here.
