Framber Valdez has been one of the best pitchers in baseball all season long, and he has finally.been recognized as such. The new AL Cy Young favorite will take to the mound on Tuesday night, as the Houston Astros visit the St. Louis Cardinals. In that game, expect the Astros ace to come out firing, and for Houston to win this contest as slight moneyline favorites.
So far this season, Valdez is just 7-5 on the season, but his 2.27 ERA has been nothing short of exemplary. He has allowed just six home runs in 99 innings of work, and his ability to keep the ball in the park should be a massive plus for him and his team in this game. Combine that with the Cardinals bats being set to struggle now that they aren’t in London anymore, and it is advantage Astros on Tuesday.
Along with the brilliant pitching of Valdez, the travel situation for the Cardinals is something worth keeping in mind when betting this game. They are just getting back from their London Series with the Chicago Cubs ahead of this Tuesday night matchup. While they had ample time return from across the pond, that much travel will never be beneficial going into another game, especially one against such a high-quality opponent.

The Pittsburgh Pirates and San Diego Padres will do battle on Tuesday night, in a game that could fly under the radar for most given how many quality games there are on Tuesday night. But this could end up being one of the more competitive contests on the Tuesday MLB slate, as the inconsistent Padres look to build some sort of momentum as they head East after losing two straight to the lowly Washington Nationals.
One of many problems for the Padres this season is the fact that they have not been able to hold serve as favorites this season. The Padres are just 25-32 as favorites so far this year, a role that they occupy again in this game against Pittsburgh. There is plenty of value on the Pirates in this game as a result, as they should be able to take advantage of the struggles of the Pads as favorites.
Along with struggling as a favorite, the Padres have struggled with Yu Darvish on the mound so far this year. Darvish is just 5-6 on the season to this point, and he carries with him an ERA of 4.84 on the season. Look for Darvish to continue to struggle to deliver for the Padres in this contest, which should come down to the wire no matter which team comes out on top at PNC Park tonight.

The New York Mets are in a complete freefall in the National League, as they have fallen 16 games back of the Atlanta Braves in the NL East standings. They have lost two games in a row, relinquishing a lead in both of them. Here, their tailspin should continue on Tuesday as they face a Milwaukee Brewers team that should be able to shut them down for a second straight night at Citi Field.
Since taking a 6-3 lead against the Philadelphia Phillies on Sunday, the Mets have been outscored 6-1 over their last 10 innings of play. They took a 1-0 lead on Monday against the Brewers, before giving up two runs from their bullpen to lose the game. With their bullpen pitching so poorly, the Mets are in real trouble against a team near the top of their division in the Brewers.
Making matters worse for the Mets is the fact that they are sending the struggling David Peterson to the mound for this contest. Peterson is 1-6 on the season so far, posting a ghastly 8.08 ERA. Expect him to get hit early and often by the Brewers, who should have a rare offensive breakout in this matchup with the reeling Mets.
