The NLCS series between the Philadelphia Phillies and Arizona Diamondbacks could conclude in game six on Monday morning. The Phillies, up 3-2 in the series, are looking to finish the series at home and get back to the World Series. The Diamondbacks are looking to force game seven and get the series and the momentum back home.
The Diamondbacks are desperate to try and even the series to get back home. One of the biggest problems for the Diamondbacks is that in each of the losses, they have allowed the Phillies to score in the first inning. They've had problems scoring early themselves.
Philadelphia is 3-0 when scoring in the first inning. Arizona hasn't been able to score in the first inning at this point in this series.
The Diamondbacks will be going with Merril Kelly (3.00 ERA in 12 postseason innings pitched) on Monday. He has allowed only four runs, with three of them becoming home runs. He is the Diamondbacks' last chance for them to get to game seven, so he knows he has to limit the Phillies' success in the first inning.
The Phillies are going with Aaron Nola (0.96 ERA in 18.2 postseason innings pitched) as the starting pitcher, who has been terrific in the postseason. He should have no problem holding back Arizona in the first inning.
The ALCS series between the Houston Astros and the Texas Rangers is set to conclude on Monday night with a huge game seven in Houston. The host team is 0-6 in this series and the early scoring has not been an indicator of the team's likelihood to win either.
In the first two games, there was a score in the first inning, the Rangers took game two, while Houston took game four. In game five, however, the Rangers scored in the first inning but lost. Finally, in game six, the Astros scored in the first inning but lost.
The Astros are going with their top starting pitcher in the postseason in Cristian Javier (1.69 ERA in 10.2 postseason innings pitched). The Rangers are hoping for a bounceback performance from starting pitcher Max Scherzer (11.25 ERA in 4.0 postseason inning pitches). Scherzer allowed five runs (one of them being a home run), five hits, one walk, and only four strikeouts in the four innings pitched in the Rangers' 8-5 game-three loss to the Astros. With the season on the line, the Rangers are trusting Scherzer to bounce back and pitch a solid game to suppress the Astros at the plate.
