Game one of the 2023 World Series between the Texas Rangers and the Arizona Diamondbacks was the beginning of a potential classic. The Rangers started off with two runs in the first inning and held on for a 6-5 win to take game one.

The second game of the series was an absolute domination from the Diamondbacks in Arlington 9-1. Arizona didn't get on the scoreboard until the top of the fourth inning.

The Diamondbacks haven't been a team to start hot in the first inning through the entire postseason. They are a team to get hot in late in the game even if that comes with a serious comeback.

What could make the game and the NRFI bet interesting is that the Rangers will be starting Max Scherzer (9.45 ERA in 6.2 innings pitched in the postseason). In the two games that Scherzer has started in the ALCS against the Houston Astros, Scherzer has been terrible. He has allowed seven runs, with two of them being home runs. This gives the Diamondbacks opportunities to score early, but he has only played badly in the postseason against the Astros.

The Diamondbacks are set to start Brandon Pfaadt (2.70 ERA in 16.2 postseason innings played) at the mound. He has allowed five runs, with two of them being home runs in four games played.

There is potential for the Rangers to score in the first inning just as much as the Diamondbacks. The Rangers are ranked 12th in the league in runs accounted for in the first inning (0.54) while the Diamondbacks are ranked ninth (0.57).
