The first matchup of the NLDS between the Philadelphia Phillies and the Atlanta Braves was not the high-scoring matchup many experts promised. Despite the lenient pitching matchups, the Phillies scored all three of the runs while the two teams combined for 11 hits, seven walks, and 19 strikeouts.
Many of the Braves’ star batters struggled at the plate, including potential league MVP Ronald Acuna Jr., who only accounted for one walk and struck out once in his three at-bats.
To make game two more difficult for both teams at the plate, the starting pitchers will be better than the pitchers in game one. The Phillies are going with Zack Wheeler (3.61 ERA in 192 innings pitched), while the Braves are going with left-handed pitcher Max Fried (2.55 ERA in 77.2 innings pitched).
The starting pitchers are expected to make the potential scoring a lot more difficult in game two. The Braves, however, are looking to run off emotions as they seek to defeat the Phillies for losing to them in the NLDS last season 3-1.
The Braves are coming off an extended rest period after skipping the wild card round. The Phillies, on the other hand, are confident and fresh after dominating the Miami Marlins in the NLWS.
The Braves are the top team in the league YRFI by accounting for an average of 0.90 runs in the first inning. The Phillies are not far behind them at ninth in the league (0.57). While there is potential for both teams to score early, the pitching matchups will be tough to overcome.

Game one of the NLDS between the Arizona Diamondbacks and the Los Angeles Dodgers was a one-sided matchup. The Diamondbacks dominated the Dodgers in game one 11-2 thanks to six runs scored by Arizona in the first inning and three more scored in the second inning.
The Diamondbacks created serious momentum in the NLWS sweep over the Milwaukee Brewers. They scored 11 runs in the two games.
Arizona is off to a hot start in this divisional round series by six runs over Clayton Kershaw before Los Angeles was forced to pull him early in the first inning.
Game two of the series will feature a more efficient matchup of starting pitchers between the two teams. The Diamondbacks are going with Zac Gallen (3.47 ERA in 210 innings pitched), while the Dodgers are going with Bobby Miller (3.76 ERA in 124.1 innings pitched).
The Dodgers and the Diamondbacks are projected to have a more difficult time establishing a rhythm at the plate due to their talented starting pitchers. Los Angeles ranks second in the league in runs accounted for in the first inning (0.71), while Arizona ranks seventh in the league (0.58).
