Yankees vs Braves Predictions

Yankees vs Braves Predictions

The New York Yankees and Atlanta Braves have an extensive history dating back to the 1990s, when the Yankees took two World Series titles over the Braves in a span of four years. In the present day, however, the Braves are the only team in this rivalry that appears poised to play in the Fall Classic. With the Yankees struggling all over their roster, the Braves will look to take advantage on Tuesday night, as they look to improve the best record in baseball at home.

New York Yankees Predictions

For the New York Yankees, this season has been an unmitigated disappointment, as they enter Tuesday night with a 60-59 record. They were blown out on Monday night against the Braves, losing 11-3 thanks in large part to a disastrous third inning. Here, the Yankees will look to stay above .500 for the season with a win, while also looking to avoid a fourth straight loss that would put them further into last place in the AL East.

The problem for the Yankees going into this game is the fact that they are sending Luis Severino to the mound. Severino has really struggled this season for the Yankees, as he enters this game with a 2-7 record and a hugely disappointing 8.06 ERA for the season. Severino has allowed 18 home runs in 63.2 innings of work this season, an average of a home run every 3.5 innings so far in 2023.

While the Yankees are not likely to get a great performance out of Severino on the mound, they should also be worried about their hitting. New York ranks in the bottom 10 in runs scored this season, which will be a problem if they want to catch up to the Braves after they get done battering Severino around.

Atlanta Braves Predictions

The Atlanta Braves have emerged as the best team in baseball so far this season, posting a record of 76-42 entering Tuesday’s play. Not only are the Braves almost guaranteed the NL East title at this point in time, but they are closing in on home-field advantage throughout the National League playoffs as well. Here, they send Bryce Elder to the mound in a game where he should have a huge advantage over Severino.

So far this season, Elder has a record of 8-4, along with an ERA of 3.64 in 131 innings on the mound. Elder has certainly had his ups and downs this season, as he is allowing just shy of a hit per inning for the season. But his contributions to the Braves have looked like those of Tom Glavine or Greg Maddux compared to the way that Severino has pitched for the Yankees so far this year.

Along with their advantage on the mound in this game, the Braves have a huge edge at the plate in this series. The Braves rank first in MLB in runs scored this season, as they could become the first team in the league to hit the 700 run mark as a team on Tuesday night. Given who they are facing in terms of an opposing pitcher in this game, Atlanta should be able to get their five runs to hit that milestone on Tuesday without much trouble.
