Wawa 250 Predictions

Justin Haley Will Try His Hand in the Xfinity Series at His Best Track

In his frustrating rookie season in the NASCAR Cup Series, Justin Haley has scored just one top-five and two top-10s.

Based on hiss record at Daytona International Speedway, however, Haley should be competitive when he returns to the Xfinity Series for Friday night’s Wawa 250.

Haley and his Kaulig Racing organization as a whole have achieved a formidable record in superspeedway races. Haley has won two of the last four Xfinity Series events at Daytona, and in seven starts there he has recorded three top fives and four top 10s.

While we expect Haley (+800) to have a typically strong performance on Friday night, we’re not backing him to win in an occasional Xfinity start.

Austin Hill Has an Undeniable Knack for Racing on Superspeedways

Based on his record at Daytona, we think Richard Childress Racing driver Austin Hill is undervalued at +1000 via DraftKings Sportsbook.

In 2019, Hill scored his first NASCAR Camping World Truck Series in the season opener at Daytona International Speedway.

This year, he did the same thing in his first full-season outing for RCR in the NASCAR Xfinity Series. Hill was in front of runner-up AJ Allmendinger when caution froze the field on the final lap.

Hill’s other Xfinity win this year came at Atlanta, which also features close-quarters superspeedway-style racing.

Accordingly, we like Hill to sweep the Daytona races this year and think he’s an excellent choice at +1000.

Ty Gibbs Is Seeking His First Xfinity Series Top 10 on a Superspeedway

Despite his series-best five victories this season, we don’t understand why Ty Gibbs is tied for second favorite (+900) to win Friday night’s Wawa 250.

In one start each on NASCAR’s two largest superspeedways—Daytona and Talladega—Gibbs has a best finish of 11th at Daytona.

At Talladega and Atlanta this year, he finished 35th in both races. While we have enormous respect for the 19-year-old driver’s talent, he still has much to learn about close-quarters drafting.

That’s why we’re not picking Gibbs to win—and why we like veteran Justin Allgaier to beat him head-to-head at -105.
