On Thursday, February 1st, the NBA announced the reserves, and thus the full rosters, for the 2024 NBA All-Star Game. Coaches from across the NBA voted on which players deserved to occupy the two backcourts, three frontcourts, and two non-position players for each team.
Giannis Antetokounmpo (Captain) - Milwaukee Bucks
Joel Embiid - Philadelphia 76ers
Jayson Tatum - Boston Celtics
Tyrese Haliburton - Indiana Pacers
Damian Lillard - Milwaukee Bucks
Bam Adebayo - Miami Heat
Paolo Banchero - Orlando Magic
Jaylen Brown - Boston Celtics
Jalen Brunson - New York Knicks
Tyrese Maxey - Philadelphia 76ers
Donovan Mitchell - Cleveland Cavaliers
Julius Randle - New York Knicks
LeBron James (captain) - Los Angeles Lakers
Kevin Durant - Phoenix Suns
Nikola Jokic - Denver Nuggets
Luka Doncic - Dallas Mavericks
Shai Gilgeous-Alexander - Oklahoma City Thunder
Devin Booker - Phoenix Suns
Stephen Curry - Golden State Warriors
Anthony Davis - Los Angeles Lakers
Anthony Edwards - Minnesota Timberwolves
Paul George - LA Clippers
Kawhi Leonard - Los Angeles Clippers
Karl-Anthony Towns - Minnesota Timberwolves
The Eastern Conference has three first-time All-Stars: Orlando Magic forward Paolo Banchero, New York Knicks guard Jalen Brunson, and Philadelphia 76ers guard Tyrese Maxey.
The Western Conference has no first-time All-Stars.
The NBA All-Star game only has so many roster spots, and there are many talented players across the NBA. While all selected deserve the title All-Star in 2024, some who weren't chosen stand out as snubs from the game.
Team | Record | Games | MPG | PPG | RPG | APG | SPG | BPG | FGM / FG% | 3PM/3P% |
---|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|
SAC | 27-19 (5th in East) | 40 | 35.6 | 27.2 | 4.1 | 5.5 | 1.6 | 0.4 | 9.6/.467 | 3.0/.380 |
De’Aaron Fox was an All-Star last season, so many expected him to be named to the team again in 2024. Instead, Fox sits out of the All-Star Game in Indiana, along with the rest of his Kings teammates, despite leading his team to a top-five seed and improving in almost every major individual category this season. Calling Fox’s exclusion from the 2024 NBA All-Star Game a shock would be an understatement.
Team | Record | Games | MPG | PPG | RPG | APG | SPG | BPG | FGM / FG% | 3PM/3P% |
---|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|
SAC | 27-19 (5th in East) | 46 | 35.4 | 19.9 | 13.0 | 8.0 | 0.8 | 0.5 | 8.0/.616 | 0.5/.451 |
The Sacramento Kings were hoping to get at least one All-Star, given they’re ranked fifth in the Western Conference, but the exclusion of Domantas Sabonis has Kings fans up in arms. While he may not be as flashy as selected Western Conference frontcourt members, Sabonis leads the league in rebounds while being second to only Nikola Jokic in triple-doubles this season. Sabonis’ seemed to exceed the standard for All-Star performance this season.
Team | Record | Games | MPG | PPG | RPG | APG | SPG | BPG | FGM / FG% | 3PM/3P% |
---|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|
ATL | 20-27 (10th in East) | 42 | 36.3 | 27.0 | 2.9 | 10.9 | 1.4 | 0.2 | 8.4/.423 | 3.3/.368 |
Trae Young misses the NBA All-Star Game for a second consecutive season. One of the NBA’s top scorers and playmakers, Young’s omission from the Eastern Conference All-Star team seems to stem from his lack of team success. Individually brilliant and consistent, Young’s omission is problematic for fans to accept.
The following players have had excellent seasons and deserve to be mentioned among the snubs for the 2024 NBA All-Star Game. In no particular order:
Lauri Markkanen - Utah Jazz
Derrick White - Boston Celtics
Rudy Gobert - Minnesota Timberwolves
Scottie Barnes - Toronto Raptors
Alperen Sengun - Houston Rockets
Myles Turner - Indiana Pacers
