The Boston Celtics weren’t ground-breaking in their mid-season moves, but their recent uptick in form is promising enough to accept being conservative. Against the Nets, the new-look Celtics must push the pace from tip.
In Boston’s last meeting with the Nets, they put Brooklyn out of the game in the first quarter. The Celtics won the first period 35 to 16, leaving almost no room for recovery.
Star scorers Jayson Tatum and Jaylen Brown will obviously be the focus, but contributions from Robert Williams and Marcus Smart will define whether or not they can seal the victory.

When the Celtics and the Nets met last time out, it was Jaylen Brown who starred for Steve Nash’s side. He’ll be a focus for the Nets defence, so Brown must be efficient with his early opportunities.
Brown posted 22 points, 9 assists, and 7 rebounds in his last meeting with Brooklyn. He was massive to open the game, scoring 12 of his 22 points.
The attention that Brown draws, combined with his passing ability, makes Boston a very difficult threat to manage. How Brown starts the game should determine Boston’s chance at winning.
The Brooklyn Nets have been struggling over the past month, mostly due to the loss of Kevin Durant and now James Harden. Still shorthanded, Brooklyn needs contributions across the board to make up for their lack of production.
The focus will not only fall on veterans like Patty Mills, Blake Griffin, and LaMarcus Aldridge, but on new acquisitions and young contributors like Seth Curry, Andre Drummond, and Cam Thomas.
After losing 12 of their last 14 games, the Nets team must focus on the defensive side of the ball where they’ve allowed their opponents to shoot 48.7% from the field. The defense needs to improve and maintain, regardless of lineup.

After a short rest period after the All-Star break, Nets veteran Patty Mills will look to bounce back after a dreadful performance in his last meeting with the Celtics.
Mills has struggled without the Nets stars available to create opportunities for him. He went 2 of 8 in his last meeting with Boston, while also proceeding to shoot just 33.9% from the field and 36.1% from deep in his next 5 games.
Brooklyn needs production from the win spot if they want to redeem themselves against the Nets. Mills will always do a bit of everything on the court, but scoring is his best asset.
