How Can the Bulls Beat the Lakers?

The Chicago Bulls are in the top ten in the league in both offensive and defensive rating. Their balance on both ends of the court is tough to match for any team, but the Lakers might just be there.

For the Bulls to beat the Lakers they need to contain the Lakers in transition. With Davis’ move to center, the Lakers are trying to push the pace – to usually positive results.

The Bulls are athletic and aggressive on the defensive end. Outside of their halfcourt effort, to beat the Lakers they must slow the likes of Westbrook and Davis controlling the tempo of the game.

Bulls Key Player: (G-F) DeMar DeRozan

The Chicago Bulls are flying this season, and much of their success is owed to perennial All-Star DeMar DeRozan. Despite his criticisms, DeRozan is still one of the NBA’s most talented scorers.

DeRozan is coming off of a game where he posted 35 points, 7 rebounds, and 5 assists. He was brilliant, shooting 12 of 16 on the evening and also converting on 10 of 11 free throw attempts.

The former Compton High star returns to his home state, which usually calls for a strong game. Against the Lakers’ strong interior defence, DeRozan’s in-between game will be invaluable.

How Can the Lakers Beat the Bulls?

The Los Angeles Lakers have a tall task ahead of them when they face the Bulls. Containing Chicago’s various tiers of scoring will be key for the Lakers’ success.

The Bulls are an interesting team, ranking dead last in three-point makes and attempts but seventh in overall field goal and three-point field goal percentage. Chicago are also eighth in the league in fast-break points.

The Lakers need to key in on at least one area to limit the Bulls. Their perimeter defense can be shaky, but the strength of their shot-blockers makes up the difference. The Lakers must maintain their defensive focus against the hyper-efficient Bulls.

Lakers Key Player: (F) Anthony Davis

Anthony Davis has made his move back to the center position which, in his last game against the San Antonio Spurs, led to some fantastic results.

In his last game, Davis posted 34 points, 15 rebounds, 6 assists, 2 steals, and a block in 40 minutes of play. Davis was great offensively, shooting 14 of 24 from the field and converting on 2 of 3 three-point attempts.

The Lakers will be facing a Bulls team missing their star center Nikola Vucevic. While he isn’t a strong defensive presence, Davis should feast on a night where he won’t have much individual defensive responsibility.
