Germany Team Preview

Germany entertained through their FIBA Basketball World Cup Finals run. They went undefeated in their first seven games, with impressive victories over Australia, Slovenia, and Latvia, to name a few. They enter the final against a Serbia team that has been similarly impressive through the tournament.

The German offensive was excellent in their semi-final win over the United States. They shot 58.0% from the field and won the paint battle by six points while hitting 13 threes on 43.3% efficiency. The trio of Schroder, Theis, and Obst produced 74 points, 17 assists, nine rebounds, and eight made threes.

Serbia loves to attack ball screens and push the ball in transition. While Germany’s offense has kept up with some of the best offenses in the tournament, their defense will take on another enormous challenge in the biggest match of their

Key Players & Stats

Germany had the fourth-ranked offense through the FIBA World Cup. They average 94.4 points per game on 51.4% from the field and 38.7% from three-point range. Their pace and ball movement are critical to their success, averaging 23.9 assists per game to just 10.1 turnovers.

Point guard Dennis Schroder has been their top performer through the tournament, averaging 17.9 points, 6.7 assists, and 1.4 steals per game on 42.1% shooting from the field. Andreas Obst has been their designated sharpshooter, posting 10.9 points and 2.3 made threes per game. And the Wagner brothers have combined for 28.4 points and 11.3 rebounds per contest.

Serbia is excellent at attacking matchups, so the German defense needs to be ready to adjust. On the offensive side, they’ll be competitive so long as they can maintain the quality of their perimeter shooting.

Serbia Team Preview

Expectations of Serbia were low when they entered the 2023 FIBA Basketball World Cup without Nikola Jokic, but the team has shown that it’s much more than its NBA star.

Serbia were impressive in their last match, a nine-point win over Canada. On top of holding Canada to just 85 points, Serbia scored 95 on 62.1% from the field and 71.1% inside the arc. They won the paint battle 46 to 32.

Serbia will see quite the offensive challenge from Germany, so they must maintain their scoring quality at the rim. Germany has better rim protection than Canada, so their shooting will be tested in this final match of the tournament.

Key Players & Stats

Playmaking and efficiency define Serbia, averaging 97.7 points on 56.0% from the field while producing 25.0 assists per game. They lead the tournament in points in transition while dominating teams in the paint.

Serbia’s top performer has been guard Bogdan Bogdanovic, who has averaged 19.4 points, 4.6 assists, and 2.7 threes on 51.7% from the field. He’s been supported by big man Nikol Milutinov, who has posted 13.6 points and 9.0 rebounds per game on 71.2% efficiency.

The inside-outside game that Serbia presents has frustrated some of the world’s best teams, and it’ll be their chief weapon against Germany. Against Germany’s versatile defensive lineup, Serbia will need to exploit matchups with greater efficiency to win gold.
