  • Sign-up offer: What is the quality/value of the sportsbook welcome offer?
  • NBA betting features: Are there any NBA-specific betting features?

  • Security: Does the sportsbook do a good job of protecting users' personal and financial information?
  • Payout speed: After winning big on your NBA bets, how long will the sportsbook take to payout your winnings?

DraftKings Sportsbook

While there are many good options for NBA betting apps and platforms, DraftKings is in contention for being the best. Why is that? Because the odds and lines at DraftKings are as good as an NBA gambler can find anywhere.

The DraftKings mobile app is one of the very best. On top of that, no operator offers better promos for both new users and existing customers.

Right now, when signing up at DraftKings, there are two different welcome offers you can take advantage of.

The first is a nice and simple bet $5 to get $150 in bonus bets offer. The other option is a much bigger potential $1,000 deposit bonus. The deposit match is 20%, meaning if your first deposit is $5,000, you will get $1,000 in free DraftKings bonus betting credits.

PointsBet

Quickly becoming many NBA bettors’ go to basketball sportsbook, PointsBet is making sports betting more fun and potentially more profitable. You may ask, just how are they doing that? Through the PointsBetting system that is unique to the PointsBet Sportsbook.

The PointsBetting system allows basketball bettors to multiply their winnings when the team they bet on covers the spread by more than the set line. Every point over the spread a team you bet on wins by will multiply your bet all the way up to ten times the amount of your potential winnings. On the other hand, if you lose the bet, your loss is multiplied by the same amount you set for multiplying your winnings, capped at ten times your bet.

All new users to PointsBet can get up to $500 in bonus bets. The potential $500 comes in the form of five separate $ 100-second chance bets. For the first five days of your account opening, your first wager placed each day is protected up to $100.

Pros

  • The PointsBetting system is unique to PointsBet
  • Easy-to-use platform with a great user experience
  • Game live-streaming
  • Strong customer support

Tips for Choosing an NBA Betting Site

When choosing an NBA sportsbook, there are several factors that you need to consider:

  • NBA specific promos
  • New user promo offer
  • Best features for betting on the NBA
  • Quality and value of NBA odds and lines
  • Live betting function, usability, and speed of odds updates
  • Payout speed
  • Sportsbook availability

Similar to how we grade the best NBA betting sites, here are a few tips for selecting one for yourself. The most important are the live betting function, NBA-specific promos, and sportsbook availability.

It is important for most NBA bettors that the live betting function works well because you need to place your wagers for in-game bets quickly. If the platform functions slowly, it can literally cost you money for missing out on bets you thought you placed, but the sportsbook did not process it quickly enough.

There is no better way to help your bankroll than with free money, bonus bets, and odds/profit boosts. This is where a sportsbook that offers many NBA-specific promos can make a big difference.

Lastly, sometimes the best ability is availability. Especially if you travel often, make sure you choose a legal sportsbook that operates where you live and any locations you frequent.

  • Live Bet & Get: Place a live bet on any NBA game and get a 50% matched bet.

Here are some of the most popular NBA bets to make after you have signed up.

Moneyline

Betting on the moneyline is the simplest of all bets. All you do is choose which team will win the game straight up.

Point Spread

When you bet on the spread in an NBA game, it means the sportsbook will favor one team by a set amount of points.

The Lakers may be favored over the Grizzlies by 2.5 points. The spread/line would be displayed as -2.5 Lakers. So if you bet on the Lakers, they have to win by over that amount for the bet to hit.

On the flip side, if you bet the Grizzlies, they could lose, and as long as it was by one or two points, your bet would still hit.

Over/Under (Totals)

Betting on the game's point total is relatively simple, as oddsmakers will set a projected amount of points in a game.

If the point total is set at 220.5 points, and you bet the over, it means for your bet to hit, at least 221 points need to be scored. If you bet the under, there would need to be 220 points or fewer scored for your bet to hit.

NBA Prop Bets

Prop bets are wagers that are not tied to the outcome of the game, for example, a player to score more than X points or Y rebounds. A fan-favorite NBA prop bet has become the combined over/under bets on a player's total points, rebounds, and assists.

Parlay

A parlay bet is when you combine multiple bets (called legs) into a single bet. For your bet to hit, each leg has to win. If you have a five-leg parlay and each of your first four legs is correct, but the fifth leg loses, then your bet is unsuccessful.

The more legs you add to your parlay, the higher the final odds of the bet will be, and the more your winnings will be if it hits.

NBA Futures

Futures bets are set around certain things to happen, typically much later in a season. Examples include who will win the NBA championship, be the MVP, or win the scoring title.

Futures bets are tough to hit on because many things could happen during the period of the wager. It is more complex than picking whether a team will win or lose today or tomorrow. Yet, the value can be high when you bet on a long shot to win an award or championship.

Live Betting

Live betting includes many of the same types of bets that you can bet on pregame. Yet, as the title says, you are doing it live while the game is being played. You can live bet on the moneyline, spread, point totals, quarter or half winners, quarter or half totals, and much more.

Betting on the NBA Playoffs

Every bet mentioned can be bet on in the playoffs, plus some as futures bets will get added for things like teams to win a series or the conference.

Betting on the NBA Finals

Betting on the NBA finals can be intense and has a lot of opportunities for adding to your bankroll. NBA Bettors can make all the regular pre-game bets and live bets, as well as betting on futures for the NBA Champion, NBA Finals MVP, etc.

NBA Line Movement

NBA lines are pretty instant when two teams have no more games before a matchup is going to occur, even if that game is two days from happening. The lines move often, especially in this era of player rest.

A line will move rather quickly if a key player is set to rest or miss a game due to a minor injury. This is where an edge can be had as if you get to a line before an injury or rest is announced, you can sometimes get plus odds. Then, once a player is announced, the team you bet on may now be the favorite.

Best For Odds: Caesars

When it comes to straight-up odds and lines, no one is better than Caesars Sportsbook. With odds provided by globally respected William Hill, it is no surprise that their odds are top class.

For many professional NBA bettors, the basketball sportsbook of choice is Caesars because of the slight odds advantage that can be found. Caesars may have fewer odds or profit boosts than, say, a FanDuel, but their consistently excellent odds will not be beaten often.

Best For Promotions & Bonuses: FanDuel

No one beats FanDuel when it comes to betting promotions and bonuses for NBA basketball. It is the most used sportsbook in the US and a big reason why is because of so many amazing offers, promos, bonuses, boosts, and more.

New users can grab up to $1,000 back in bonus bets if their first wager loses. Yet even after signing up, NBA bettors can expect to see countless ongoing NBA promos throughout the season and playoffs.

Best NBA Betting App: DraftKings

Most sportsbooks these days have a great mobile app with high user ratings on both the Google Play store and Apple’s App Store. DraftKings, though, is the top choice.

With great odds, excellent app functionality, and top-of-the-line live-betting technology, DraftKings has what basketball bettors are looking for in an NBA sportsbook app. It is also among the most widely available sports betting apps; available in 22 states.

Best For Payment Options: BetMGM

With many great options for making deposits and withdrawals, the BetMGM sportsbook is very consistent regarding banking methods. Consistency is key in this area, and while BetMGM is not the fastest at paying out its users, the sheer range of payment options it offers makes it our top recommendation here.

NBA Betting Strategies

There are so many options for betting on the NBA and it can sometimes be overwhelming. You can apply many strategies, though, and it is essential to remember to find one you can execute and stick with it.

Here are a few of the more popular and potentially profitable methods.

Bet Underdogs on the Moneyline

Find an edge where you think an underdog on the moneyline will win. It is awesome to bet an underdog with plus odds on the moneyline and win. Making more than you wagered for just betting on a single team is a great way to make money.

Of course, underdogs are made an underdog for a reason. Look for injuries or players resting and jump on a moneyline before the odds change.

Live Bet Moneylines on Both Sides

This is my own personal favorite way to bet, especially on basketball. This typically works better in a game where the initial spread is close, and it should be a back-and-forth game with lots of lead changes.

When one team is up, bet the underdog on the moneyline with plus odds, and do the same betting on the other team once they are down in a game. Doing this guarantees profit if you bet on both teams at +150.

Latest NBA Betting Picks & Odds

Which States Offer Legal Online NBA Betting?

When sports betting became available state by state after PASPA was overturned in 2018, it changed the US sports betting landscape. Now there are 25 states with legal online sports betting and a handful more that allow retail sports betting as well.

More states are legalizing sports betting every year, and it is not crazy to think we could be over 40 legal states sometime before the end of our current decade. For all the latest legal information, visit the WSN state pages for detailed information about every state in America and its betting landscape.

NBA Betting in Canada

Sports betting in Canada is legal. Things are just done a little differently than in the US. Similar to how decisions are made on a state-by-state basis in the US, in Canada each province decides its laws on sports betting.

Sports betting is legal in some form or fashion in every Canadian province. Yet each has different rules. Some allow online and retail, while others allow only retail.

The same is said for the types of bets allowed. For a long time, Canadians were only allowed to place parlay bets. That has changed in some provinces while staying the same in some other provinces.

Here are a few of the top sportsbooks allowed in Canada:

  • DraftKings
  • BetMGM
  • PointsBet
  • bet365
  • BetRivers
  • BetWay

Ontario NBA Betting Sites

Ontario is one of the most betting-friendly provinces in Canada. It can even be said that Ontario is leading the charge for legal sports betting in Canada.

With massive cities in the province like Ottawa and Toronto, there are several professional teams and large population centers. This creates an incredible sports betting landscape with plenty of passionate fan bases.

If you find yourself in Ontario, BetMGM, Caesars, FanDuel, DraftKings, BetRivers, and more reputable legal sports will be available to you.

Gamble Responsibly

Responsible gaming is priority number one for any NBA bettor, or at least it should be. If you ever find yourself needing some help because betting is causing you more harm than good, resources are available. Maybe you are unsure if you have a problem; reaching out to some of the resources below is still not a bad idea.
