Miami Heat vs Dallas Mavericks Predictions and Picks

Dallas haven’t played with the same threat this season as they’ve had in previous years, and the Miami Heat look to be in top form. With the league’s best defense, the Heat looks like they’ll be able to grind down the Mavericks.

Miami Heat def. Dallas Mavericks (-105)

MIA: Beautiful Ball Movement

The Miami Heat are scoring easier than ever, and it isn’t just due to the acquisition of All-Star point guard Kyle Lowry. Miami’s entire offensive philosophy has a new wrinkle to it, and it’s fuelling an early season run for the top of the East.

In their last game against the Memphis Grizzlies, the Heat produced an absurd 31 assists on 46 made field goals. All players that appeared for more than five minutes contributed at least one assist on the evening.

The Mavericks are an athletic defensive team, so beating them one-on-one is certainly going to be difficult. If Miami continues to push the pace and move off the ball, they could put the Heat away early.

Heat Key Player: (G) Tyler Herro

He may not be a starter, but Tyler Herro is playing starter-like minutes coming off the bench. With a shift toward being Miami’s sixth man, Herro has flourished.

In just his third season, Tyler Herro is averaging 22.0 points, 6.7 rebounds, and 4.5 assists per game on 45.8% shooting from the field. While his shooting has been up and down, he’s found a way to contribute when he isn’t scoring.

Herro will be matched up with an athletic Dallas Mavericks lineup, so he’ll need to either score or find a way to get his teammates involved. If he keeps playing at his current form, he’ll be an early favorite for Sixth Man of the Year.

DAL: Control the Paint

Miami may not be the biggest team in the league, but they’re tough to handle due to their energy at every position. With Porzingis and Kleber unlikely to play in this matchup, head coach Jason Kidd will be looking for new energy off the bench.

The Mavericks are bang average in the rebounding category, averaging just 46.0 per game – good enough for 14th in the league.

Two of their top four rebounders are likely to be out for this game, so expect big minutes from Dwight Powell and Dorian Finney-Smith to make up the difference.

Mavericks Key Player: (G) Luka Doncic

The Mavericks rely heavily on their role players to support Doncic in all of his efforts, but Doncic will surely be focused with two starters unavailable due to injury.

Doncic is coming off of 23 points, 10 assists, and 8 rebound games in a victory over the Sacramento Kings. With a smaller lineup, expect Doncic to push the pace.

He won’t have his usual outlets in Kleber and Porzingis, so expect Doncic to shoulder the scoring load even more than usual. The Mavericks backcourt is still strong, but Doncic’s ability to get everyone involved is crucial if they want to succeed.
