Two teams that are struggling with their poor run of form, the Sacramento Kings and the New York Knicks are both looking to break out of their slump. The Kings’ defense has been dreadful and doesn’t look to improve against a capable scoring unit like the Knicks.

It is no secret that the Sacramento Kings struggle to find consistency on both ends of the court. Despite having some capable shooters, their offence tends to fall short due to their lack of playmaking.
When Sacramento take on the New York Knicks, they’ll need to take advantage of New York’s inconsistencies on defence. In losses, the Knicks allow their opponents to shoot 46.3 from the field and 37.9% from three.
The key for the Kings going into this game will be creating opportunities. Without De’Aaron Fox, the Kings’ offence can grow stagnant. To find victory, young guards Tyrese Haliburton and Davion Mitchell must find a way to create opportunities for others as much as they can for themselves.
Tyrese Haliburton…HOW?!
— Hoop Central (@TheHoopCentral) January 30, 2022
The Sacramento Kings have been struggling all season, which is the main reason why many of their players will be available for this coming NBA Trade Deadline. However, in their last game, Tyrese Haliburton put on one of his better performances of the season.
In what was a loss to the Philadelphia 76ers, Haliburton was the sole bright spot for the Kings. He posted 38 points, 7 assists, 3 rebounds, and 3 steals on 11 of 19 shooting from the field.
Haliburton can struggle when he’s the focus of the offence for the Kings, but he showed his quality in his last game. A deadly shooter with a willingness to get to the free throw line, the Kings have more than a fighting chance if Haliburton can get his offence rolling early.
The New York Knicks are coming off of a 3-game losing streak, owed to their inability to keep up on the both ends of the court. While their defence has been suspect all season, it’ll be their offensive game that will help them against the Kings.
The Sacramento Kings have the 29th ranked defence in the NBA, which should work to help the Knicks and their recent offensive struggles. They’ve averaged just 43.4% shooting and 33.6% shooting from three-point range over the course of their 3-game losing streak.
New York must be aggressive in order to break their losing streak and defeat the Kings. If their stars can’t find their groove early, they’ll struggle to keep up.

The New York Knicks are a shadow of themselves from last season and much of that has to do with the disappointing play of Julius Randle. If the Knicks want to overcome the Kings, Randle must perform up to the level expected of him.
In his last game, a loss to the Milwaukee Bucks, Randle was shut down. He posted just 9 points, 11 rebounds, and 3 assists on 4 of 9 shooting from the field. Randle’s offence has been underwhelming all season, shooting just 41.3% from the field and 30.6% from deep.
Randle’s play in wins and losses doesn’t really vary, but his three-point shooting is the main difference. If he can get his offence going early and keep the Kings honest from deep, the Knicks have a great chance at victory.
With the season nearing its midway point – take a deeper look at who might pull off the ultimate goal of winning the NBA Championship!
