Knicks vs Nets Predictions and Picks

The New York Knicks haven’t found any consistency on the defensive end through this season, flip-flopping wins and losses over their last eight games. The Nets on the other hand are a focused offensive unit with a solid interior presence. Their scoring should see them through.

Brooklyn Nets def. New York Knicks (+215)

How can the Knicks Beat the Nets?

The Knicks are coming off of a game where they took down their 2021 NBA Playoff rivals, the Atlanta Hawks. In that game, they brought back some of the defense that intimidated opponents last year.

In their Saturday victory against the Atlanta Hawks, the Knicks were able to hold one of the NBA’s top offenses to just 35.5% shooting. While undermanned in the paint, the Knicks lost the rebounding battle by a mere two boards.

Brooklyn are not a prolific rebounding team, but the Knicks’ new focus on perimeter defense may serve them well against the ball movement of the Nets. If New York can control Brooklyn’s three-point shooting, they can steal a win from the Eastern Conference leaders.

Knicks Key Player: (G-F) RJ Barrett

New York Knicks head coach Tom Thibodeau made a big move in removing perennial All-Star Kemba Walker from the rotation. With him out, all eyes are on second-year RJ Barrett to step up his production.

In his last game, a win over the Atlanta Hawks, Barrett was a team-high plus-18 while posting 15 points and 7 rebounds on 6 of 11 shooting.

Barrett will be leaned on for more playmaking with Walker out of the lineup, but he’s proven to be a capable playmaker. When he faces Brooklyn, the Canadian international will need have his biggest task on both ends of the court.

How can the Nets beat the Knicks?

The Nets are coming off of a loss to one of the best team’s in the NBA. When they face off against the Knicks, it is easy to see where Brooklyn must take advantage.

The Knicks are known for their interior defence, still boasting Mitchell Robinson at center despite Nerlens Noel and Taj Gibson being lost to injury. While Brooklyn aren’t famous for their rim attack they certainly have the pieces to take advantage of the short-handed Knicks.

With a focus on the Knicks’ weakened paint defence, the Nets can drive and kick for greater three-point opportunities. They’ll need to shoot better than the 30.4% they did in their last game, a loss to the Suns.

Nets Key Player: (G) James Harden

How does a player post a triple-double, but still have something to improve on in their game? Well, James Harden was brilliant in his last game but his efficiency left Nets fans wanting.

Harden posted 12 points, 14 assists, 13 rebounds, 2 blocks, and a steal in 39 minutes of play. Unfortunately, he shot just 4 for 15 from the field while missing all 6 of his three-point field goal attempts.

As Brooklyn’s point guard, Harden should be focused on playmaking. However on evenings like his last game where he commits 7 turnovers, he needs to be an efficient scoring option.
