How Can the Mavericks Beat the Warriors?

The Dallas Mavericks need to improve on their Game 1 performance if they hope to be competitive in this matchup. Unable to employ either their offensive or defensive scheme, the Mavericks were embarrassed in their opening match.

Dallas chose to rush the perimeter, holding their opponents to just 34.5% from three-point range. Unfortunately they couldn’t keep up with the Warriors’ pace, allowing them to shoot 56.1% from the field as a whole.

The Mavericks must relieve the pressure on Luka Doncic and find production from different areas. Defensively, the odds are against them. But if they can get their offence going, they have plenty to challenge the Warriors.

Mavericks Key Player: (G) Luka Doncic

It is well known that the Dallas Mavericks’ offence runs through Luka Doncic. However due to his struggles in Game 1, no other Dallas player was able to get on track. If the Mavericks hope to bring the series level, they’ll need Doncic to return to form.

Doncic is coming off of a performance where he posted 20 points, 7 rebounds, and 4 assists in 34 minutes of play. He shot just 6 of 18 from the field and 3 of 10 from three-point range, on top of committing 7 turnovers on the night.

The Mavericks need Doncic to clean up his game and create for others if they hope to win Game 2. If he can’t overcome the Warriors defence, the Mavericks don’t have a chance at victory.

How Can the Warriors Beat the Mavericks?

The Golden State Warriors were excellent in Game 1 against the Dallas Mavericks. Not only did they get off to an excellent start, but they held Dallas to a dreadful night shooting the ball.

The Warriors were able to keep the Mavericks to just 36.0% shooting from the field and 22.9% from three-point range. They didn’t force too many turnovers, just 13, but their defensive pressure and discipline forced the Mavericks into difficult shots.

If Golden State can open the game with a good defensive effort, they have a great opportunity to go up 2-0 in the series.

Warriors Key Player: (G) Stephen Curry

Stephen Curry continues to impress, looking like the early frontrunner for the Conference Finals MVP award. While his scoring remains excellent, his willingness to do the dirty work only empowers Golden State’s offence.

Curry is coming off of a performance where he posted 21 points, 12 rebounds, 4 assists, 1 steal, and 1 block in 30 minutes of play. He came out of halftime on fire, scoring 9 points in the third quarter end route to their 10-point quarter differential.

When Curry is active on the glass, the Warriors are playing at their fastest pace. If the two-time Most Valuable Player continues to contribute in more than the scoring department, the Warriors have a great chance at going up 2-0.
