How Can the Nuggets beat the Nets?

The Denver Nuggets face a Nets team that will be missing a few crucial players. If they hope to beat the Nets, Denver must contain protect the paint.

The Brooklyn Nets rank second in the league in field goal percentage at 47.4% per game, and seventh overall in assists at 25.6 per game. Containing the Nets will be a matter of stifling player movement and forcing one-on-one play.

Unfortunately, the Nuggets aren’t the best at limiting shots in the paint – ranking 29th overall in two-point field goal percentage allowed. If they can’t find a balance between protecting the arc and at the rim, they’ll come out on the losing end.

Nuggets Key Player: (C) Nikola Jokic

The Denver Nuggets are coming off of a hard-fought win over the Detroit Pistons. Jokic was dominant against a team without consequential big men, but he may have a tougher time against the Nets.

Jokic posted 28 points, 21 rebounds, and 9 assists in 34 minutes of play in his last game. While he is always an offensive threat, it is his rebounding that made the difference for the Nuggets.

It’s unlikely he’ll be as effective on the glass against the Brooklyn Nets’ energetic front court, but his last game will encourage his play. If Jokic can dominate the paint, the Nuggets’ opportunities expand tremendously.

How Can the Nets Beat the Nuggets?

The Brooklyn Nets must be wary when they face off against the Denver Nuggets. While the Western Conference competitors are hovering around the .500 mark, they are much more dangerous than their record suggests.

The Denver Nuggets are first and foremost, a passing team. It makes sense considering their star Nikola Jokic is one of the league’s best playmakers, despite being a center. The Nuggets average 3.6 assists less in losses than in wins, while also shooting 43.9% in losses and 49.3% in wins.

The Nuggets will give the Nets a taste of their own medicine in this matchup. Brooklyn will need to be aggressive in closing out on shooters and recovering if they want to beat the Nuggets.

Nets Key Player: (F-C) LaMarcus Aldridge

Coming off of a loss in their last game, the Brooklyn Nets could not compete in the paint. When they face the Nuggets, the Nets will look to veteran LaMarcus Aldridge to lead them Nikola Jokic and Denver’s paint threat.

A solid defender, Aldridge’s offensive ability will be the real threat to the Nuggets. In Aldridge’s last game, a loss to the Lakers, the veteran big man posted just 9 points and 6 rebounds in 20 minutes of play.

In order to open up their offence, Aldridge must establish himself in the paint. Luckily for the Nets, he remains a very talented post-scorer.
