NOP: Resistance… From Anyone!

The New Orleans Pelicans are coming off of a loss to the Sacramento Kings. A disappointing loss because it was the “easiest” match in what is an absolutely brutal four-game road trip.

New Orleans had a chance against Sacramento, but each player gave up as much as they earned. Valanciunas is their centerpiece on offense, but he can’t seem to guard anyone off the bounce. Devonte’ Graham got off to a good start, but faded as the game went on.

The Pelicans need a spark of inspiration, to overcome the fact that they’re so outmatched with their stars unavailable. They need to find it on the defensive end, considering they let the Kings to shoot 52.5% on them in their last game.

Pelicans Key Player: (G) Nickeil Alexander-Walker

The Pelicans need inspiration from somewhere and it may very well come from second-year guard Nickeil Alexander-Walker. One of the few individually scoring-adept players left on the healthy Pelicans roster, the Canadian needs to take on a leading role.

Alexander-Walker got off to a decent start to the season, but cooled off after about four games. He is coming off of a small resurgence against the Kings, where he posted a decent 16 points, 4 assists, and 3 rebounds.

The Pelicans’ sophomore guard does need to improve his efficiency shooting the ball though. He’s converting on just 35.2% of his shots from the field and 26.3% of his shots from three. He needs to improve on his shot selection if New Orleans hopes to steal a win over the Warriors.

GSW: Don’t Get Complacent

The Golden State Warriors are cruising, coming off of a fantastic win over the Charlotte Hornets. When they face the Pelicans, they need to remain focused despite the supposed weaknesses of their opponents.

The Pelicans are struggling with their star players out, but they still do a lot that can trouble Golden State. While the Warriors swarm the paint, they could struggle with the size and efficiency of Jonas Valanciunas and Jaxson Hayes in the paint.

The Warriors already rebound as a group, evidenced by their 49.9 rebounds per game, but they’ll need to show some fight against some bruising big men.

Warriors Key Player: (G) Jordan Poole

Jordan Poole was looked at as the player to take a big jump for the Warriors this season, but he’s been hot and cold through seven games. In his most recent outing, Pooled showed off how dangerous he can be as a scorer.

Poole is coming off of a game where he posted 31 points and 4 steals on 52.4% shooting from the field, all while hitting 7 three-point field goals.

The Warriors have plenty of options on offence, but Poole has the greatest potential to be an excellent secondary scorer. With another weak defence in front of him, we’ll see if he can find some consistency.
