How can the Sixers beat the Clippers?

The Philadelphia 76ers are coming off of a win in their last game, but they certainly can’t go up against the Clippers and think momentum gives them an advantage. One of the league’s toughest defensive teams, Philly must show how their offense can overcome that.

The Clipper are ranked 6th overall in field goal percentage allowed (44.9%), 5th in two-point field goal percentage allowed (51.3%) and 10th in three-point field goal percentage allowed (34.5%).

Against an organized defensive team like the Clippers, it is crucial for the Sixers’ stars to manufacture good opportunities for others. It’l be up to the likes of Harden and Embiid to initiate their offence.

Sixers Key Player: (G) James Harden

After moving to the Philadelphia 76ers at the trade deadline, it hasn’t all been roses for the perennial All-Star. Harden has shown struggles with the Sixers since joining, but his last game against the Lakers showed how impactful he can be.

In his last game, a win over the Los Angeles Lakers, Harden was productive despite a poor shooting night. Posting 24 points, 7 rebounds, and 7 assists in 36 minutes of play, Harden was able to involve his teammates to make up for his off-shooting night.

Harden’s alternative pathways to success aren’t meant to suggest he can go without scoring though. Harden scored 24.2 points per game on 45.5% shooting in wins, versus 19.6 on 35.2% in losses. Simply put, Harden’s offence must come first for Philly to find a win.

How can the Clippers beat the Sixers?

The LA Clippers must be careful with their defensive aggression when they face the Sixers. Known as a physical team, the Sixers have proven time and again that they can take advantage of their opponents’ defensive pressure.

The Philadelphia 76ers are ranked 1st in the NBA in free throws made per game and 3rd in the NBA in fre throws attempted per game. Of their 23.7 free throw attempts per game, Joel Embiid and James Harden account for 21.6 of them.

The Clippers play excelllent defence, only allowing their opponents to the line 19.3 times per game – 3rd best in the league. Slowing down the Sixers will begin with LA’s ability to limit Harden and Embiid’s opportunities.

Clippers Key Player: (F) Terance Mann

The LA Clippers have struggled to find victory over their last four games, but second-year forward Terance Mann is doing everything he can to keep the Clippers afloat. Over his last four games, Mann has been very productive.

Despite their four-game losing streak, Mann is averaging 18.0 points, 7.3 rebounds, and 4.5 assists over that stretch.

WIthout their star players, the Clippers are prone to going stagnant on offence. In his role, Mann needs to provide scoring off efficient opportunities, on top of supporting the rebounding effort. Against one of the league’s best centers, Mann won’t have a simple job.
