How can the Pistons beat the Cavaliers?
The Detroit Pistons need to replicate their late game energy against Houston if they want to beat the Cavaliers.
In their last game, a win over the Houston Rockets, the Detroit Pistons entered the fourth quarter with an 82-79 lead. Rather than get comfortable, they buckled down and held Houston to 28% shooting from the field.
The Cavaliers have shown the ability to go on some decent scoring runs, especially off of the smooth play of Darius Garland. Detroit needs to carry the defensive focus from their last game into this one, if they hope to beat the Cavs.
Pistons Key Player: (F) Jerami Grant

While most of the attention on the Detroit Pistons is focused on Cade Cunningham, it is easy to forget that their most productive player is the versatile Jerami Grant. Now in his eighth season, Grant is getting his chance to lead a team.
The Pistons leading scorer is coming off of his best game of the season. In a win over the Houston Rockets, Grant posted 35 points, 5 rebounds, 3 assists, and 2 blocks in 34 minutes of play.
Detroit don’t have the most developed offensive game, so it comes down to Grant to produce when they need it most. Up against a giant front line in Allen and Mobley, Grant’s ability to finish will be tested.
How can the Cavaliers beat the Pistons?
The Cleveland Cavaliers are a strong team due to the versatility they have across different lineups. They are tenth in overall field goal percentage and boast five different players that are scoring over 14 points per game.
When they face the Pistons, the Cavaliers’ interior defence should create major issues. The switchability of their lineup and the speed of their big men makes it so their guards can be super aggressive.
The Cavaliers need to be smart defensively though. Detroit may not be versatile in their approach but they are gritty. Tenth in the league in free throw attempts per game, early foul trouble could cause issued for the Cavaliers.
Cavaliers Key Player: (G) Darius Garland
Cavs PG Darius Garland over his last 5 games (3 wins): 17 PTS and 7.6 AST on 60% from 2 and 41% from 3. So shifty off the bounce. Ball on a string. Effortless jumper. Improving finisher. Can pass off the dribble with either hand. Still just 21 years old. https://t.co/ZabUa9hVu3 pic.twitter.com/U840CSgGY0

Many NBA and Cavaliers fans saw Darius Garland as the future backcourt star, rather than Collin Sexton. Due to an unfortunate injury, Garland has been thrust into the spotlight.
In his last game against the Wizards, Garland posted 19 points and 4 assists on 8 of 16 shooting from the field. He didn’t seem totally comfortable without his backcourt partner, as Garland shot just 3 of 10 from the field and committed 4 turnovers.
He’ll need to show off his playmaking ability when he faces the Pistons. While not the most successful, Detroit are a gritty and switchable defensive team. Garland will face a stiff challenge this time out.
