How Can the Raptors Beat the Nets?

When the Toronto Raptors take on the Brooklyn Nets, they’ll need to find a way to limit their opponents’ hot shooting. While the Raptors are always happy to collapse on the paint, they’ll need to think twice when they face Brooklyn for the second time this season.

In their last meeting with the Nets, Toronto could not stop their opponent’s three-point onslaught. Brooklyn shot 17 of 38 from three, compared to Toronto’s 7 of 30.

The Raptors don’t have the firepower to keep up with an in-form Brooklyn team, so they’ll need to adjust their defence to find victory. Toronto have failed to contain the perimeter before, and the results are usually devastating.

Raptors Key Player: (F) Pascal Siakam

After coming back from shoulder surgery, Siakam didn’t quite look like himself. However, through his recent games, Siakam looks to be returning to All-Star form.

Through his last six games, Siakam has posted averages of 21.4 points, 8.6 rebounds, 4.2 assists, and 1.0 blocks in almost 36 minutes per game.

Siakam’s versatility defensively is always welcome, but with so many players out he needs to take the lead in the scoring department. Shooting just 31.3% from deep over his last six, Siakam must improve to keep up with the high-scoring Nets.

How Can the Nets Beat the Raptors?

The Toronto Raptors are a dangerous team for the Nets face. While they sit just below .500, they’ve got experienced contributors leading an energetic group of young players ready to execute their game plan.

When Brooklyn take on Toronto, they need to take care of the ball. Say what you will about their individual qualities, the Raptors play aggressive team defense. In victories, the Raptors force 15.6 turnovers per game to just 10.4 of their own.

Brooklyn can play a lot of one-on-one, but the Raptors are ready to double at a moment’s notice. Being ready to move the ball at a moment’s notice is key to a Nets victory.

Nets Key Player: (F) Kevin Durant

After his performance against the Detroit Pistons, you must look at Nets superstar Kevin Durant as the key player going into this game.

Durant is coming off of a 51-point, 9 assists, and 7 rebound performance against the Pistons. He was scorching hot from the field, shooting 51.6% overall and nailing 5 of 10 three-point field goal attempts.

Without Toronto’s best perimeter defender available, OG Anunoby, the Nets star could catch fire again. After dropping 9 dimes to go with his 51 points, you should expect Durant to adjust should Toronto’s swarming defence key in on him.
