Golden State Warriors vs Memphis Grizzlies Pick

The Memphis Grizzlies led for the majority of Game 4, but they failed to close the game in the end. Buoyed by the absence of Morant and a veteran team that knows how to close out a series, the Warriors are the clear favorites.

How Can the Warriors Beat the Grizzlies?

The Golden State Warriors aim to eliminate the Grizzlies from playoff contention with a win. Despite coming out with a win in Game 4, the Warriors must improve on what was a lacklustre effort through most of the game.

The Golden State Warriors played to the pace of the Grizzlies through most of the game, getting outscored for the majority of the match. Memphis were able to take the Warriors out of their game for most of the match, forcing the Warriors into just 9 of 37 shooting from three.

Only in the fourth quarter, when the Warriors pushed the pace and ran in transition, did they shoot over 40% for a quarter and outscore the Grizzlies 39 to 29. If they can start off the game by pushing the pace, the Grizzlies don’t have the shooting to keep up.

Warriors Key Player: (G) Stephen Curry

The Golden State Warriors showed their championship experience in Game 4 against the Grizzlies. Central to their success, despite not leading until the fourth quarter, was three-time NBA Champion Stephen Curry.

In the Warriors’ Game 4 victory over the Memphis Grizzlies, Curry led the way. He posted 32 points, 8 assists, and 4 rebounds in 37 minutes of play. Curry diversified his attack, going 10 of 25 from the field, 4 of 14 from three, and 8 of 9 from the free throw line.

Curry took over in the fourth quarter, scoring 18 of his 32 points on 4 of 7 shooting from the field. If Curry can get involved in the offence early in Game 5, the Grizzlies don’t look to have the firepower to keep up.

How Can the Grizzlies Beat the Warriors?

The Memphis Grizzlies led for the majority of Game 4 against the Golden State Warriors. They ended up giving away the game late in the fourth quarter, as they were hampered by their inability to stop the Warriors’ offence.

Memphis was able to hold their opponents to 36.6% shooting through the first three quarters of Game 4. However, Memphis showed their inexperience as they allowed the Warriors to shoot 58.8% from the field and 50% from three in the fourth quarter – eventually leading to their loss.

If the Grizzlies have any hope of staving off elimination, they need to maintain their defensive intensity against the Warriors. They have the size advantage, so they must tighten up on the perimeter when the Warriors hunt down shots.

Grizzlies Key Player: (F) Desmond Bane

Through the playoffs, Desmond Bane has been the Grizzlies’ second best scorer. With Ja Morant out of the lineup, Memphis’ second-year forward needs to step up in order to help the Grizzlies stave off elimination.

Bane struggled in Morant’s absence in Game 4, posting just 8 points, 6 assists, and 3 steals on 3 of 8 shooting from the field. He was still able to convert on 2 of his 4 three-point attempts, but without Morant available he had very few clean opportunities.

The Grizzlies need a leader and Bane has been a surprise contributor for them all season. If he can step up and be productive with Morant out, the Grizzlies still have a good chance at victory.
