The Golden State Warriors have been in control for most of their Conference Finals series against the Dallas Mavericks. If they hope to sweep Dallas, they need to make sure their defensive standards don’t drop.
The Warriors’ small lineup has been excellent at guarding the three-point line while sacrificing very little in the paint. In-Game 3 they held the Mavericks to 28.9% shooting while also winning the rebounding battle by 14.
Golden State’s zone defence has stifled the Mavericks and caused issues for their offence. So long as the Warriors stay aggressive on defence and keep the Mavericks off balance, they should come out with another NBA Finals berth.

Canadian international Andrew Wiggins has been a revelation for the Warriors through this 2022 NBA Playoff run. While he’s never the focus of the Warriors offence, he’s been capitalizing on his opportunities while remaining a solid defensive presence.
Wiggins is coming off of a Game 3 performance where he posted 27 points, 11 rebounds, and 3 assists in 39 minutes of play. He struggled from three, shooting just 1 of 5, but was 11 of 20 from the field overall.
The energy and athleticism that Wiggins provides has been more than welcome by the Warriors offence. With his finishing ability and activity on the glass, Wiggins is the difference-maker against Dallas.
The Mavericks simply look outgunned when they’re on the court with the Warriors. They have all the pieces, but they haven’t been able to put it together with consistency. Dallas’ role players need to step up.
Between the trio of Doncic, Brunson, and Dinwiddie, the Mavericks found 86 of their 100 points. The rest of the Mavericks players were a dreadful 5 of 27 from the field in Game 3. Sharpshooters Kleber, Bullock, and Bertans were a combined 0 for 14 from three-point range on the night.
The Mavericks playmakers are creating decent opportunities, but the Mavericks aren’t converting with efficiency. If they can’t find their stroke, the Mavericks need to use their size advantage to beat Golden State in the paint.

What else can be said about Luka Doncic? He has been the best individual performer in the series, by far. He’s doing everything he can, but his teammates haven’t been able to make up the difference.
Doncic is coming off of a performance where he posted 40 points, 11 rebounds, 3 assists, and 2 blocks in 40 minutes of play. He was 11 of 23 from the field, 4 of 9 from three-point range, and 14 of 17 from the free throw line.
He won’t make any massive leaps after just one game, but Doncic has to be more engaged on the defensive side of the ball. He’s being targeted by the athletic Warriors, which Doncic must limit if he hopes to keep Dallas in the game.
